var. Caespitosa? activity
    #20416325 -

are the v. caespitosa active?
everywhere ive googled no one seems to know lol
i guess if i dont get an answer ill have to try for myself lol
maybe theyre LESS active? So i could use quite a few pups to equal a normal one?
thank you for any insight...
and if they are worth my time/money, would it be even better to graft it when i get one?

Auto-Summary
The post discusses the potency of Lophophora williamsii var. caespitosa, also known as "grey" and "green" caespitosa. Users report that the potency varies greatly among individuals and plants, with some experiencing mild effects and others needing larger amounts to achieve a trip. The post also mentions that harvesting and consuming caespitosa requires a significant number of plants due to the small size of the dried buttons. The author concludes that growing and grafting caespitosa may be a better option for obtaining a more potent and reliable source of mescaline.

I have read one post at different forum where people talk about "grey" and "green" lophophora williamsii v. caespitosa.. Anyway, you probably don't get enough for trip by harvesting few pups(you really need BIG caespitosa plant to make even possible to harvest few pups and trip from them)

One caespitosa pup is very small compared to regular peyote button size. I can say one thing about 4inch wide peyote button gives you approx 2-5gram weight button. Smaller plants dried buttons are like 0,5-1,5grams. SO: You really need lots of peyote to harvest to get proper amount of buttons to get trip out from them.. One big caespitosa plant can yield approx 8-15grams of stuff but plant needs to be big.

Poster what I talk about was consumed one whole plant(~150grams fresh if I remember right) and bought the plant for consumption from vendor and say the effects can be felt but seems he/she got only mild effects from one plant and not enough at all what should have been need to consume and rest people said to poster: "you should eat the peyote so long the effects starts to kick"

I really don't know what are the "grey" and "green" caespitosa difference, I've seen lots of different caespitosa, some have bigger main head, some doesn't have main head and lots of pups only.

Also what I have understand some caespitosa may be just human cultivated peyote with genetics the plant just grow offshoots, some peyote really grow offshoot or two at very young age so few caespitosa can be just cultivated specimens where offshoots are allowed to grow. In habitat these plants grow very slow and basically "drill" themselves to ground over the years and someway "normal peyote" can lost it's offshoot in the wild. Also what I have notice is that both caespitosa and regular peyote have similar fruits, caespitosa have very mild hue of pink color at fruit or it's deep pink color.. Also seeds collected from regular peyote plants can produce pupping forms of peyote when they are grown and so on..

Afaik, there is only one spot in the wild where is said caespitosa form grows. I don't know about it's potency, but I have heard about caespitosa have mescaline but how much it probably depends what kind of grower there is..

What I have read about some very good grown Japanese peyote they have got tested like +3% mescaline content and when these are compared to those peyote plants what NAC members grow and they have only ~1% or less mescaline in their slow grown and low fertilized plants. That makes me think about the possibility can health of plant increase the mescaline content. I don't know further about those tested plants but what I remember about is the thing about samples from ornamental collectors are more potent than peyote grown for consumption with less care and fertilizers. One factor can be just different strain of peyote at different parts of world and those test "results" may be just the variety of potency.. I don't remember have there been tested lots of plants.. This what I wrote doesn't mean I know first hand experience about peyote and it's effects.. I can say only how to grow plant, don't know much of it how to grow it best way to consume them but I assume the health and fertilizing of the peyote(or even san pedro) is one factor to get mescaline to your plant. There are still differences from plant to plant so one plant can produce more mescaline in good grow spot than another simply because of natural reasons.

In europe some psychedelic forums have talk about peyote consumption, some say it's best to obtain buttons from mexico than consume peyote from vendors. One thread I have find out about where someone say about the site where one person in mexico collect peyote from wild and sell them as dried to europe and those buttons have been potent enough to trip and also cheaper than peyote bought from vendors. And most people say it's not worth to consume peyote obtained from vendors but that is also hard to say for sure because someone may have bought very young seedling and consume them without effects. What I have calculated how much money one peyote trip would going to cost and it's easily about 400-500€ worth of cacti to get enough stuff to test. It's not worth of consuming small plants at all.

What comes to "grey" caespitosa what said to be inactive and "green" said it's active. I really don't know what these forms are..

I assume it's possible to get effects from caespitosa if you have enough plants to prepare enough dried buttons. I have cut one small peyote, diameter of 4cm and it yield 1,7grams dried and it shrink to size 2cm. +10cm diameter fresh button shrink to size of ~4cm diameter when you dry it. Yet I have not consume any, just harvested three plants because they were so ugly at skin caused by spider mites.. Also I got some information about how much plants dries and what I find out is when you dry fresh button it may drop it's weight like 90-95% so there is LOTS of water in cactus. I estimated how much weight is left after drying the button and it was about 7-8% from fresh weight. One inch button (fresh) yield only below one gram of dried and I think it's too small to even harvest, if it's not just a offshoot of bigger and older peyote. Still the yield of dried material is relatively low compared to price how much they cost from vendors and how long it takes to grow few.

Some say peyote have littlebit different effects than trichocereus but if you are after mescaline I suggest to try get some trichocereus to trip some. If you can't get peyote enough, it's not worth to kill any plants to take trip.. I am sure you are going to feel bad about when you kill plant or two and you don't get effects you are expecting and be disappointed.

Basically to answer your guestion it needs a plants and someone to ingest them to find out.. Still if someone have ingested caespitosa and got effects from it, no one can say will you going to have similar plant because some caespitosa plants have tested to have near 0% mescaline content. I think low potency caespitosa can have few different reasons why there are little or none mescaline in tissue of plant.

Don't take my posts as total fact, I really don't know about those and it's only things I have read and heard. Seems no one really seems to know what is "green" and what is "grey" caespitosa in reality and what people (who ingest these plants) know about these two different forms they say another is active and another isn't. I don't know myself anything about potency of peyote.

Good luck if you really going to try loph. caespitosa but you really should get few bigger plants for consumption.. One plant isn't enough if you just take few buttons here or there, you basically need to harvest whole plant to get enough stuff.. The caespitosa buttons are very very small (most of them) when you dry them and yield only 0.1-1gram / button or something like that, depends totally the size of buttons and the actual plant.

What comes to potency of actual peyote buttons, I don't know why some are reported to be very weak and some have been reported to give effects.. There may be some difference in potency what comes to growing conditions. Still I am not sure what factor(s) increase the mescaline potency to certain levels and what factors reduce the mescaline production.

I think grafting is the way to go to grow edible peyote and it's easy when you know what you are doing... Even I have not ingested grafted peyote buttons but there are some stuff around shroomery what proof the thing peyote will going to have mescaline even it's grafted. Also growth speed of grafted plants is greater and they are easier to water and grow than own root peyote, it's a fact most people just water their lophophora plants too much and worry do they have enough water even these plants have big water storage system on their own, especially peyote on it's own root.. :strokebeard:

If you harvest peyote properly, you are going to have fast growing new buttons in few weeks.. Big and properly harvested tap root can be planted to pot and wait some time. Harvested plant have big root already and when new offshoots starts to grow they grow fast because of the big root.

Afaik cut peyote plants may be basically illegal to have in many countries because it indicates to drug use. Even tho I don't like myself even speak mescaline as recreational drug, I have not taken mescaline for long time and I don't need reason for it.. And only mescaline source I have ingested few times is dried san pedro(not PC-clone)

It is ok if they are the right "size" for consumption, the 3 buttons of yours.
That is the problem really with caespitosa, the big ones cannot focus in developing because they are always pumping new pups out, it reaches consumption dimensions harder than others. Keep in mind that caespitosa isn't something alien, it can easily revert back to normal wiliamsii so the mescaline potential should be actually the same

ps. what would you consider the right size for consumption, if using 3? if using one?
also do you know what the natives method is for consumption? cut apart and boil down? strain and drink?
thank you again

About consumption methods and dimensions.. there is a wealth of information out there.
A better question would be from where do you get these buttons?
Did you grow them yourself or do they come from another grower or are they from the wild?
In the wild for example they need some 5+ years to be of good size but most importantly to contain mescaline in the "right" concentration.
My rule is at least 4mm diameter and i think you need like 6 of them for a minimal dose.. Pretty tough right?
Something that i found

They're active.

It's yielded 0.616-0.786% mescaline.  ( Fujita M, Itokawa H, Inoue J, Nozu Y, Goto N.  “[On the cactus-alkaloids of Lophophora williamsii var. caespitosa (kobuki-ubadama]”  Yakugaku Zasshi. 1972 Apr 22;92(4):482-9.)

L. williamsii averages around 1% and has been found in concentrations of up to 6%.

If you really want to do peyote, you need time and dedication for several(dozen) years and best way to do it is just grow your own, it takes time anyway. I can show some of my "project" going on I have harvested small number of peyote plants from my garden and see new growth coming, it happens relatively fast.

Erowid says 10-20gram to small dose and some 30-50grams to big dose.

I have experiment going on, because few plants got so bad to their skin, I harvested some but not enough yet to get trip.. Offshoots grow very fast back and bigger the buried root under the soil is, faster those offshoots grow. Still even one big peyote plants doesn't yield enough for trip so my project is going to be long.. It takes time to harvest occasionally buttons or offshoots from peyote. Anyway there are some pics from regrowth and caespitosa buttons I cut some time ago with two other peyote plants. I have never bioassay the plants yet.

Peyote buttons themselves really goes small when they are dried but you can leave root to grow new buttons

I am going to follow this big root growing offshoots, in picture they are only few week old. :yesnod:

These buttons yield only like 8grams so you can compare how much buttons you really need to get effects from peyote cactus. I have never eat/drink peyote myself anyway. Buttons are actually from bigger caespitosa plant but never consumed. The plant got so ugly and older buttons doesn't had so much new growth so I harvested them off, dried and move them to my freezer to be cooked maybe some day in future, I still need more flesh to collect and it happens very slowly. :gangsta:

I haven't harvested most of my peyote plants and they have stayed on their shape what comes to epidermis and pests causing skin problems occasionally. Those caespitosa buttons just didn't grow anymore so fast because plant had lots of young new offshoots so I harvested ugly ones off and let them grow fast new pups.

Maybe some day I find out about what the deal with peyote but it take years. I would not have harvested those plants but I have decided to collect slowly some peyote to my freezer as dried buttons.. ofc I want to see how fast actually re-growth happens when peyote is harvested, still I want to keep my most plants without I cut them to produce seeds and offshoots..

I probably harvest some grafted buttons after few years to increase my stock. Then I know what kind of stuff peyote is. I have planned to do peyote tea from dried materials, this may take several years anyway.. I am sure I will consume my own peyote one time in my life at some point.
:awesome:

Only I have tested is pachanoi...
:awehigh:

nice man, do you dry them first then freeze? i heard about freeze and unfeeze several times to break it down first.... i have a 3 small buttons starting to rot so i figured if they start to look any worse i will cut em freeze and unfreeze a few times, maybe wait till i have more but ive also heard from one guy that he got off on 3 relatively small buttons..... hmmmmmmm

It's better to just dry them at +50-80C.. Then store to -15-20C after they are dry enough. They can be used later on for consumption. In most countries that kind of action is illegal to do.
