There aren't alot of things I've found as useful as a Windows 98 startup disk with utilies like fdisk etc. It really bothers me that most new computers don't have a floppy drive.

when i was in HS puters were still a novelty. we wrote some BASIC and saved our data on cassette like things

then i took a FORTRAN class. so yeah you can keep your fancy newfangled floppy shigamagiggers kiddo

I remember we used 4 or 5 3.5"hdd floppies to store Pink Floyd's What Do You Want From Me . It was a 5 or 6 Mbyte PCM coded WAV, compressed using ARJ. That was our first real CD rip, back when the record came out in 1994.

Firewire is a proprietary apple thing...

Simply put you need to license 1394 to have 1394 and many PCs don't for this reason.

The cost is too much, as with all proprietary apple machinery, hence why they never took off while PCs with their open standards did!

Oh... and for the floppy discussion....

DIE FLOPPIES YOU VOLATILE PIECES OF CRAP!

I hated when i got to school with an important document on a floppy in my pocket that was wasted by a floppy drive at school... damn kids gotta stick paper clips and gum inside everything >.<

SD cards are a lot like floppy disks were in many ways. They even resemble a miniaturized 3.5" floppy a little. Too bad a lot of computers are not set up to boot from them, that was a good standard feature with floppy drives.

I thought they were 1.44mb.  I use to love when AOL sent me 20 disk to install their junk shit or when netscape navigator sent me 10 disk to install theirs.

Why would anyone want Mac or Windows?  Windows never quits shoving updates down your throat and Mac is just so expensive for the same exact hardware that's in a PC.
