What bullshit.  No employer can force someone to take a job.  I offer X.  If you don't like X you can fuck off and work for somebody else who offers X+.  Freedom.

Yet, the entire reason people are offering X+, is because X is set as "the standard" of wage for society.

I think it would be cool if there were a way to have minimum wage scale with something like necessity.

Or even something like age/experience.

For example, 18 year olds can make $8 an hour.

25+ year olds can make $10 or something.

And for those saying that this would motivate companies to hire 18 year olds, I don't think so. 25+ year olds are a lot more responsible and experienced, and will be more competent and dutiful at the job than any 18 year old.

I think it would motivate companies like McDonald's to hire 18 year olds, and that's fine.

It would probably be an incredibly complex system to develop, and naturally everyone wouldn't like it. Things like age, experience, and current cost of living (within reason, of course) would play into it. But yeah, not something I could even begin to come up with.

Yea, basically the only companies that would do it would be shitty companies that are serving really shitty and cheap products. For companies that expect a better service from their reps however, they would obviously do better to hire the more mature 25+ year old.

this shits fucked man.  They should have never began steal money from us in the first place (taxes).  We came to america to get away from this shit and of course.. were forced right back into it.  Maybe if they would just lower the fkn cost of everything and stop stealing peoples money... They wouldnt even need to *raise* minimum wage.  Raising minimum wage just proves that the 1$ is absolutely worthless.. but yet we give it value because we think it gives us a purpose. no it doesn't, people make the world go around, not worthless linen.  Only until we destroy all the trees, forests, animals, world; will we then realize that we can't eat money.

First of all, this study ended in 2006..2 years BEFORE the recession started. Nowadays, the job market sucks more dick than a thousand naked gay guys all in the same room with each other.

I have an associate's degree and have LOTS of job experience yet for awhile, mimimum wage jobs were all that I could find.

The reason, so this study states, that most minimum wage workers live with someone who is making MORE than they are is because, well, minimum wage workers CANNOT afford to live ON THEIR OWN. They HAVE to live with someone who makes more than they do.

This study is so fucking bogus it's not even funny.

The minimum wage needs to be raised because nobody deserves to live in poverty. Plain and simple. Also, not everyone can be an astronaut. We NEED service workers. I mean, where the fuck would you get your MEAL from if there were no low wage service workers? You sure as hell are not going to make your OWN meals your damn self.

It's like that book Brave New World. EVERYONE has a place in society.

I don't think the argument is we should establish a plethora of welfare programs. The argument is we can not rely on the 1% to do the right thing and pay their workers skilled or not the right wages. People are greedy and wealth inequality will continue to spiral out of control  as long as the few can hoard all the money they can. The rules need to be changed.

Wealth inequality is not the issue Bill Gates having billions does not effect my or your ability to earn a living.

Who cares about Bill Gates. To me raising the minimum wage has nothing to do with limiting how much money Bill Gates makes. I'm going to go ahead and start repeating this statement of mine from now on in response to arguments until people start to get my point:

Employees are a privilege, not a right, if a person REALLY is THAT motivated to run a business on their own then they should run it just like that, on their own, without having to complain about wage hikes they have to pay their employees which are extremely low in comparison to current inflation values

What bullshit.  No employer can force someone to take a job.  I offer X.  If you don't like X you can fuck off and work for somebody else who offers X+.  Freedom.

that'd be great if every time someone needed a job they had a year to be picky and decide which one they wanted, if most people made enough to really really save a ton of money etc.

If it was like that, and people just took whatever they could get, then what you are saying would be true. For example, how stupid would ANYBODY be to work at Burger King unless it was absolutely necessary? You'd have to pay someone $25 an hour just to start to take that fucking job everyone would avoid it and say "I can do ANYTHING besides work around hot grease all day"

Well it isn't like that. I wish I could get you to stop arguing theory and start arguing reality. Your theory is fucking fantastic, according to it people are absolute fucking retards just to consider taking some piece of shit $7 an hour job. Unfortunately it's all philosophy I really wish it wasn't

Having a child while on a minimum wage income is an extremely poor decision.

Yes. Being a texas transplant from california, I see LOTS of young people who make shit money who have children. I know for a fact that most of these children were complete accidents that should have been aborted.
