Yes you can boil the jars to long, this will cause that to happen,It cooks all the nutrients away.try boiling for 45 minutes, and bring it to a slight boil on get it real hot,my other solution would be pressure cooker

Are you making your own syringes? It could be bacteria in your spores. It could also be that your substrate is too dry or too wet. There are a lot of variables. Do your jars stink?

Well, the first two batches I grew w/ PF syringes... the next two w/ my own, no problems.
Then on my fifth try, w/ my own syringe, I got no growth. On my sixth try (my syringe), no growth. I was thinking there was a problem w/ my syringe prep, so I ordered from PF again... but try #7 (w/ PF syringe) yielded nothing, either.
This leads me to believe the syringes are not the problem. And no, the jars don't stink. I have more spores on the way, I will try boiling my jars for less time...
Would a pressure cooker solve this problem?

By the way, 3Mshroom... How wet should the substrate be? My 1st attempt used the MMGG recipe... on all the rest I used PF's maximum fruiting formula... the mixture was damp and cohesive, not soaking wet or anything... and how wet should it be after sterilization? Mine dries out a bit...
