Morchella esculenta mycelium
    #20202477 -

A while ago I was lucky enough to come across a massive Morchella esculenta in the woods and brought it back and made several spore prints from a chunk of its cap.  I then took some spores and placed them on agar, I expect that the prints are very dirty and would like confirmation that what germinated is indeed Morchella esculenta.

I used malt extract for the agar. The mycelium is rather jagged with angular junctions reminiscent of a snowflake. It has begun to take on a yellowish orange color in the past day. It has been growing for about a week now.

looks about right to me.  mine grew rather quickly though, covered the plate in about 3 days once germinated.  it was also very dark brown which is why I threw my first sleeve of plates out!

I've read that it grows quite fast. I imagine its something with my agar recipe. It germinated in two days though, which surprised me. Partly concerned me but I didn't see anything that looked "off" I have read that Morchella mycelium can look a little odd.

This looks right. Expect it to continue darkening to dark brown. Soon after it's likely to form sclerotia. (Does anyone know if mycelium that darkens with age is a general feature of sclerotia-formers, and if so why that would be?)
