Palestinians: US was warned of the dangers

Senior Palestinian Authority security officials claimed yesterday that in the past months, they had repeatedly warned U.S. officials to change travel routines in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. The PA security officials said they warned Americans that routine movements in GMC vehicles that have diplomatic license plates and conspicuousbodyguards could be dangerous. Members of militant Palestinian opposition groups could be collecting information about routine movements of the U.S. vehicles and personnel, the PA officials cautioned.

The PA officials say that they formulated such warnings in very specific terms and relayed them on a number of occasions, as in the case of a meeting held three months ago in Ramallah with CIA personnel.

It was established yesterday that American personnel who coordinate the movements of U.S. officials in the territories communicate travel plans in advance to PA security officials, sending the detailed information by fax or telephone. Such reports spell out the names of persons who are taking part in work trips in the territories, the times when U.S. vehiclesare to be moving through var ious areas, and the routes to be taken by the cars.

In view of this practice of relaying advance information, some analysts speculated yesterday that the terrorists who perpetrated yesterday's attack in the Gaza Strip that killed three American security personnel had advance knowledge of the U.S. convoy's intention to cross into Beit Hanun.

At least a portion of the information attained by the terrorists, these analysts hypothesized, came from official PA sources.

U.S. officials conduct frequent work trips in Palestinian territories. Officials from the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem and the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv meet regularly with Palestinian politicians, including PA Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia (Abu Ala) and Fatah leaders. Recently, most of the meetings involving U.S. officials have been held in Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah and also the Gaza Strip.

In the past, spokesmen from militant Palestinian groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad have openly denounced the U.S. presence in the territories. These spokesmen have stigmatized as "collaborators" PA security officials who work with U.S. and Israeli counterparts. On occasion, Hamas has charged that U.S. officials actively collaborated with Israeli security men in the interrogations of Palestinian suspects. Yet, despite rhetorical broadsides against Americans, and the burning of U.S. flags, these militant Palestinian organizations have refrained from physical attacks on U.S. targets.

This mixed position regarding the U.S. was evinced yesterday by Hamas. At the same time it issued a statement denying any involvement in the Gaza Strip attack on the U.S. security men, Hamas issued a statement caustically attacking the U.S. for vetoing a proposed UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel's security fence.

I was floored as I read this! Terrorist attacks happened in the Mid East, and somehow you managed to find fault with the US Again! Is their any singular event that has taken place since our nations birth anywhere around the wold that ISNT our fault? lol

Maybe we should write Arafat and inform him his "land" is now to be used for nuclear testing. Hey, we warned him!

It highlights the general stupidity and arrogance of the US which are the two main characteristics the rest of the world recognises in the US. They were warned there could bhe trouble, they didnt take the warning.

A complete genralisation, simply your opinion which if I was an American i'd find extremely insulting. But your English I suppose its to be expected :tongue:
Theres a lot of speculation in that piece, I don't see how you can blame the Americans for being the victim of a terrorist attack, considering the number of warnings they must recieve for that area, they cant change the route of convoys everytime someone has a bad felling about it....

Still, they were given warnings and it was at their discretion as to how to respond to them.

Offend may be a bit strong..I was merely being a bit of a wind up merchant. Its been an affliction of mine for sometime now though i try my best to surpress it sometimes the urge is just to great, plus I knew inny would fall for it hook line and sinker.
