Sure, people can bring parts of their culture and blend them in. But I've found in America, for the most part, many people who come here adopt to the American way of doing things. And our lack of culture.

Oh wells. No harm no foul. I'm just saying while there is American/North American cultures, I think Asante was pretty spot on that China has more culture than the US, I think the same could be said for a lot of countries.

Although Chinese culture nowadays makes me pretty sick. I've seen too many Liveleak videos.... and people getting hit by car or assaulted in the middle of a busy street and people just walk by or stand there and do NOTHING. That's kind of part of their culture too it seems. Saw one video where a guy was chasing this other guy around, repeatedly stabbing this guy for over 5-10 minutes.. in the middle of a super busy and crowded place. Hundreds of people just walked by, some people stood around watching.. no one helped. That's a common theme

But culture still runs deep there.. I think that non caring thing has partly to do with their laws. Something about if you render aid to someone in need.. you can be held responsible for their medical bills or some crazy nonsense.

Sometimes I think the media purposely portrays places like China, Russia, and N Korea as being more fucked up then they really are. It's so hard to know because almost all of our info is first filtered through our media propaganda machine. When I was traveling Thailand and met other travelers who had traveled in China, they didn't seem to have the same feelings about China as many people here in the US do. Of course there is the issue of only showing tourists the face you want them to see, but my understanding is that they have loosened up a lot in that regard.

i think Leary would refer to that as "programming".  the culture dictates the actions and behaviors of the individual.  why imply that humans are a product of their environment?  they aren't.  deep down in every one of those sheltered Asians is a powerful and expressive soul that is rarely allowed to behave in the way that they wish to.
