Terrarium question
    #1996141 -

A few questions about a particular terrarium setup:

A 55 gallon rubbermaid container is used as the terrarium. A 30-80 gallon (selectable) air pump is used.  It has 2 "nozzles" coming out of the pump, one of them goes directly to an air wand, the other gets split off into 2 hoses, each leading to an air wand. The wands are 15" long and placed under a 5" layer of perlite. They, initially, were totally submereged, and the RH was easily 95%.  After some tinkering, however, all of the humid air left the terrarium, and when it was blowing more, since the perlite was wet but their wasn't a real "water" layer in there, the air just blew perlite dust all fucking over everything.

Some addt'nl information - The air bubblers, when turned up to high as it always is, puts out enough air to totallyreplace the volume of air in the terrarium every 15-20 minutes.

Now, finally, the question.  If the perlite is removed (messy) and replaced with 4" of aquairum rocks, with the wands buried and submerged underneath, will that work? I also would like to know what is suggested to keep the moisturein, but allow the air to "Exchange" and vent out the bad air.  I'm thinking maybe drill some holes, put a 2" long piece of half inch PVC pipe in each, and cram with polyfil, or cover each end with tyvek.  If this is done, where should the holes be drilled?

If this is made "Airtight" other than the vent holes, would itbe possible to never open the container? would air circulation (manual) still be required?  sorry for this disconjointed sounding post, i just worked 15 hours andn ow i'm all stoned and spacing  thanks for the help guys

you could replace the perlite with rocks , i use lava rocks and they work great 99% with two airstones underneath

you can get them at the hydro store. Ask for geolite I think is what it's called.
