My study of Roman Catholicism proved to me that Catholicism nearly wiped out Christianity as it originally existed. Its merely a nominally monotheistic version of the Roman religion which was convenient to impose as a control structure on the great masses of people.

That's an interesting take, but most mainstream sources recognize it as a major branch of Christianity (along with Eastern Orthodoxy, which also traces its roots back to the earliest Christians, and Protestantism.)

Christians in general have very different belief systems. The big thing tying them together is believing that Jesus is the son of God and the Messiah.
