its pretty common all through history and even many places now to beat your kids.

OP you're better than the rest of the world and history though.  I hope you adopt a large family.

ghandi was beat pretty good as kid, look how fucked up he came out.

Sounds like you are fabricating or exaggerating this yelling part. In the original post you did not say he was yelling or even talking loudly.

He fucking yelled at her for being completely reasonable.

Talking sternly is not the same thing as yelling.

That's why I made the distinction between the two.  Anyway, why are you so adamant about my story not being true or at least accusing my assessment of the situation as being false?

Even though he didn't have to yell at her, children should be taught not to interrupt adult conversations. Telling a child to go away when they're interrupting is not bad parenting, although I agree he could have said it gentler.

You're cutting this guy way too much slack. He was a total sleazeball.

I do agree that it is a tricky situation when kids are interrupting an adult conversation but this girl was not being an obtrusive little shit or annoying in the least. If a kid is being persistently annoying then I agree you gotta tell em to hush up.

IDK. I think it's one of those things where if you cut the kid too much slack, they start doing it more and more often. With exception to an emergency situation, there is absolutely nothing that a child can say that would contribute to an adult discussion.

I was friends with a police officer (we used to work at the same charity event together) and he adopted 8 children from the ghetto, so he was one of those philanthropic police officers... and whenever one of his kids interrupted our conversation he'd be like, "HEY! Be quiet!" He would even tell the kids they were being annoying when they fought and stuff.

Was it like that?

Well Crystal, quite a bit of bad parents don't give their kids enough attention in the first place. Which causes them to act out for it, when they get negative responses for that it really messes with them, especially when they are younger. I have known plenty of attention demanding spoiled kids, and it is not pleasant, but kids need attention and some parents are not good at giving their kids the attention they need.

no. it was like how i said it was.

Its perfectly reasonable to tell your kids that they are being annoying when they are being annoying. People need to be checked when they get out of hand, they don't need to be treated like sub-human waste. But hey, I guess I am being a bit too liberal with this.

Eh, IDK, maybe I have a different mindset about it because I know personally that I would be one of those parents that would spoil their kids to excess and never discipline them ever. Which actually, is really a bad thing and also has negative effects on a child's psyche.

Whenever I've been in authoritative positions and was supposed to be watching kids, I would usually stay silent and be more of an observer even when really acted out. I can't help it, for some reason disciplining kids makes me really uneasy, so I'd rather be known as "the nice one" that lets them get away with whatever they want.

In reality, this is really horrible parenting, so I almost kind of wish I had a more firm and authoritative tone kind of like the guy that OP described.

I completely agree. I was one of those kids and that's why I felt so bad for her. I grew up as a little shit that needed attention and I know now that its because my parents were neglectful. I had to work through a lot of that shit on my own and most people never get out of that pattern.

That's why a balance is necessary, just like pretty much every other aspect of life xD

Ahhh the old good cop bad cop approach, guaranteed not to fuck with a kids head. Its the best of both worlds

Honestly that's exactly how I was raised. My dad was an authoritative ass and my mom was a lenient sucker. It was like my parents were enablers and enforcers at the same time.

Yea I feel like one person in those situations ends up becoming the authoritative ass to compensate for the leniency of the others. I'm sure behind the scenes, your dad was always pissed at your mom for being too lenient. XD

Oh don't get me wrong, I wouldn't baby a teenager. I'm just talking about little kids here. Little kids I feel like, it's alright to let them act out a little while they're young.

Teenagers, fuck no. Like, I feel it's wrong to hit a child under any circumstance, however depending on how bad a teenager is (like picture the teens on Maury who beat their parents), I don't see anything wrong with beating the fuck out of a rowdy teen. A teenager doesn't feel the same fear, and it doesn't totally destroy their world when you hit them, in the way that it does to a chid.

I think its kind of hilarious when adults don't have the emotional and intellectual capacities to deal with teenagers and they stoop down to their level of childishness. As observed here:

 skip to exactly 3 minutes.

I also think youre over reacting.  This kind of behavior is pretty common. Yeah maybe he was a bit aggressive but he could have just had a bad day. And if that girl threw a fit over that shes probably spoiled.  You seem to makd harsh judgments too. You call him a hick and addict etc.. you dont even know him. Its like you were waiting for him to fuck up and you exaggerated the situation. Btw a thief isnt much better than an addict.

I have interacted with this guy before this and I know first hand that he is a fat douche. You can't just down play being a douche because you had a bad day, not when it comes to children.

Ill admit that I called him harsh names(duh) but yeah what do you want me to say? I got emotional over the situation.

It's pretty apparent how quick you are make assumptions about people

I think so too, if she threw a fit over that she's probably one of those annoying screaming kids that throws a tantrum over everything.

OH MY GOAHHHHHD you guys weren't even there. None of this speculation even matters. You guys are working around my story and jumping to conclusions. You can tell me that I am quick to judge but your judgments of my judgments are equally as invalid as my judgments of his actions.

Those aren't assumptions those are facts

I have nothing wrong with people who chain smoke, she just looks like a meth addict that's all.
