:lol: Seriously though it's pretty fucked up. What I don't understand is, was this like a sweeping sentence? Did they try each person individually? From what I've read most of them are charged with murder and "other offenses". It says they "carried out attacks during clashes with security forces". How exactly would you go about trying that many people when the situation in question was so chaotic?

It was a sweeping sentence, and you go about that by basically having a criminal-appointed-criminal on the bench

It was a sweeping sentence, and you go about that by basically having a criminal-appointed-criminal on the bench


Damn....well shit....sucks to live in Egypt. This is all going to be overshadowed by other world events, and I highly doubt we're going to hear any protest from the US government.

Nah, the US government loves those guys. And you are probably right that it will be "overshadowed" by other world events-- by which I mean apathetically brief coverage in the national media will be followed with an anemic public "debate" in which creepily virulent Muslim-haters outnumber those who are outraged by this crime against humanity.

Exactly. It definitely sucks but after a while you just sort of become numb to this kind of stuff. 529....529 human lives are about to be snuffed out because of their political affiliation and you're absolutely powerless to do anything about it.

529 in Egypt, ~100,000 in Syria etc etc. They're all just numbers, it's really hard to fathom that those were/are all individuals like myself having this same experience of life as a human being.

They're not numbers, they're people, and they're not as far away as you think. Our government's tendency to align itself with people like this has pretty bad implications for our prospects with it.

It's as bloody a political purge as any in recent memory.  The Brotherhood were too greedy in co-opting the Tahrir movement and in forcing their way into the presidency when a strong presence in parliament and the justice system would have sufficed.  But Sissi is just another Big Man, and the Egyptian deep state (i.e. the military and its bureaucratic networks) remains intact and as willing as ever to shed innocent blood.  Classifying the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization is beyond Orwellian.  Executing 529 of its members in one fell swoop is like a political genocide.

This is how US conducts policy. US instigates a revolution and supports and arms extremists to do the fighting. Then when its over those extremists are plotted against and disposed of by betrayal. The CIA and State department have been doing this so often these days that they're getting really good at it.

Well I'm no fan of the brotherhood. Bunch of ass backwards fundamentalist. So no fucks given by me.

The government that they have now is still better then the fundamentalist.

I'll take a secular dictator over those asshats any day.

It's sad that this part of the world can't get it's act together. In b4 "its all merica fault"
