Moving to Canada
    #1969584 -

My great grandfather died as a shit-poor immigrant coal miner. My grandfather lost his best friends as he served in WW2. For what? To make America the world's policeman? To make America an authoritarian state? How long until they decide they need another draft to fight another war in some forsaken hellhole in the middle east? I'm not dying face-down in the sand so some oil-crazy Jingoist asshole can make another buck. No child of mine will die for approval ratings.

Each time we take a collective breath in the form of non-vigilance, the 19-foot boa constrictor that is gov't control takes up the slack.

It looks like Canada is or is becoming a Libertarian Leftist state, and that sounds just fine to me. I'm getting my masters (organic chem and environmental science) and getting the fuck out of here. I don't mind the cold at all. Canadian whisky is good stuff (Anyone in the Canadian Club?), and I have no problem with maple anything.

Anyone with me on this one?

See the world!

BTW: I'm glad America, Canada and the UK freed "us" in WW2. IMO not comparable with any other war.

i've been considering that for a while. i'd like to get out of here before any shit goes down with North Korea or Iran or Syria. the terrorist threat is much realer then most people think, smallpox could easily kill tens of thousands in the US. a lot of stuff from russia is missing, including briefcase size nukes and bio-weapons. and i live right next to DC :

somebody told me before though that you need about 10,000 in your bank account to move there... dunno if this is true or not.

only thing about canada is its too damn cold! has anybody ever considered costa rica, the virgin islands or anywhere south? i havent looked into it but wouldnt mind living on some island near the equator. i'd like to have my ganja crop and just live

If you feel you would be better off in Canada, by all means check it out.

My story is the reverse -- I left Canada almost sixteen years ago because I got fed up with the government poking its nose into every corner of my life and charging me an outrageous amount of money to do so.

When you say it looks like Canada is a Libertarian Leftist state, you are half right. It is definitely Leftist. Sadly, there is no Libertarian aspect to it that I was ever able to discover. Weed may eventually become decriminalized, but that's about it.

The maple syrup is definitely world class and the seal clubbers are actually pretty nice guys once you get to know them, but if you think Canadian Club is a good whiskey, you'll be delighted once you get the chance to check out other Canadian whiskeys. Canadian Club is the worst Canadian whiskey I have ever tried. Check out Adam's Antique or even better, Crown Royal.

Good luck on your voyage.

yea, canada's where it's at.
We drive on the left side of the road though, it might take some time to get used to. And you should sign up for the complimentary igloo that you get when you become a citizen.

Not to change the topic, but I believe Alaska courts just ruled that its ok to have up to 4 ounces of pot in your home. Plus, it is on the west coast, and close to canada for trips to there and such. Just an idea for Americans who don't have money, or a great job to get into canada. :nut:

Right now, there's a bottle of Glen Kinchie single-malt scotch in the fridge. I'm actually itching to try some Crown Royal. My buddy's dad is a big fan, judging by the Crown Royal barbeque apron he's got. Just signs of how 30-years-out-of-phase my tastes are. I love good cigars (You can get Cubans in canada) good beer (I prefer Guinness or Sam Adams, but Labatts will do), and good whiskey.

Alaska might be nice. Not paying income tax, at all. Getting MONEY from the gov't for the oil being taken. Legal pot. And I bet the next hijacked airliner is NOT coming down on Anchorage.

Warmer.... what about Ireland? At least there, terrorism is at least about a cause I believe in. Not exactly the Libertarian Left state I'm looking for, but at least ancestrally it's home.
