It puts a lot of jarring on your knees which will wear them down very quickly. My orthopedic surgeon confirmed this and said that he would recommend just walking - equal exercise, and no long term damage that will force you to have knee replacements at 50. >_>

Walking certainly does not give you anywhere NEAR the exercise that interval sprinting does.  Jogging long distances is certainly bad for your knees but sprinting isn't too bad because you don't do it for nearly as long or nearly as many strides.

Yeah true. Somewhat anecdotal evidence here

Go to a football field with lines every 10 yards. Start at one goal line and sprint as fast as you can to the 10 yard line running thru it. Then turn around, and sprint back to the goal line, running thru it again. Then turn around, and sprint to the 20 yard line. Keep doing this, adding 10 yards each time, until you have done the entire football field. If you can do it there and back in under 10 minutes you rock.

I have never sprinted in my life. I just decided I would try tomorrow morning. Just run full blast for as long as physically possible and repeat for about 20-30 minutes? Thanks man

Any pointers or tips would be good. But if it is that simple, sounds like I am ready lol

Alright well I use to do a LOT of sprinting because of tennis, so let me give you what I learned:

Do a quick 75% effort run, not far, just enough to get your heart pumping and your legs moving, then do some quick jumping jacks and then go straight for some quick static stretching. Just hold each position for 5-10 seconds and just "bounce stretch" if you know what I mean. You want to fire up your nerves and muscles, so do each stretch multiple times, but not for too long each time. After a quick 5-10 min stretch, just hop right into it. Run as hard as you can as fast as you can, when you have to stop, just stop and walk and cool down for a second. Your body needs time to replenish the energy in your muscles. Because of the fact that sprinting is an anabolic exercise, you're going to need 1-2 minutes between each sprint set because you want maximum effort, so you need maximum energy and anabolic metabolism is poor, you need to really breathe to get the ETC (Electron Transport Chain) going to get good ATP(energy).

So take some good deep breathes for 1~3 minutes while walking and then go at it.

When you feel really tired, just stop. Don't over do it. Sprinters are prone to a lot of injury if they over do it. Do a 10-20 min walk to help your muscles cool down and keep good blood flow going. Do some good long stretching afterwards, this is when you want to hold the stretching positions longer.

Hope this helped!

It actually helped and explained a lot
I do a yoga session afterwards these days lol it really seems to make my muscles feel better

Alsothe tip about breathing explains a lot. I only took 30 seconds breaks versus 1-2 minutes ans ended up walking midsprint

Thanks for the tips and good vibes
