Anyone into sprinting?
    #19683151 -

Anyone here into sprinting? I am a long distance runner. I have ran for the past 3-4 years everyday about 3-5 miles at least minus sleep deprived days and hangover days. In the past 1.5 years I alternate with yoga/strength training

How many meters in how many sets should I be doing?

Meters? I don't know.

Just run as fast as you can, as hard as you can, for as long as you can. Walk, rest, repeat.

I have never sprinted in my life. I just decided I would try tomorrow morning. Just run full blast for as long as physically possible and repeat for about 20-30 minutes? Thanks man

Any pointers or tips would be good. But if it is that simple, sounds like I am ready lol

i do long distance also. healing a sprained and/or broken ankle right now unfortunately (it's almost fully healed). but when i get back into it again, i wanna do 400 repeats on the track. that would be optimum speed training for my purposes. 10 reps, hit like 77 seconds every time...yeah that would be sweet.

I only enjoy sprinting when I am busy not working, and out committing crimes.

Intervals
Sprint a 400, 300, 200, 100. Walk/jog out 100m between each interval. Repeat three times with five minute breaks between each set.

Mix up the distances and break times.

You can also mix this into your longer runs. Do a warm up, then 30 minutes steady, then thirty fast, then twenty steady, then thirty fast, then ten steady, then thirty fast, then go home.

Surges
Find some running partners who you can keep a steady pace with and run in a pack. Number off each member of the group and have one person surge to lead the pack when it's their turn. Cycle through the numbers.

Hill repeats
Find a long 200-400m hill with a steep incline. Run sets of three repeats each. The first repeat should be done for form, the 2nd for pace, the third all out. Jog down the hill after each repeat and take a five minute rest after each set. Do until failure (usually 4-5 sets if the hill is a good size).

Find a coach.

Yeah, man. No problem.

Don't give up if it's hard! Running is so rewarding. You'll probably sore as hell after your first day if you're doing it right. I don't know what your routine is like now, but you should be doing dynamic warmups, a cool down, stretching before and after, and plyometrics a couple times a week. Doing all that will help keep your legs from getting too beat up.

Keep at it!

fiddle knows what's up.
i'm not much of a runner but i go through phases where i add it to my workout routine. do you have a track to run on? when i did sprints i'd warm up with an easy jog one lap, then i'd sprint the long stretches of the track then walk or jog the curves.

I am no professional running, but you might like some hills? I run this massive hill near the river. It's a bitch to get up and I have to use all my willpower, but when I get to the top I feel like a million bucks.

Sprinting is way better for you than jogging.  You will gain muscle instead of lose it, increase your power, and it's way easier on the joints.

If you're going at it pretty hardcore I would just do a few times a week.  Two days in a row is probably fine once you get into it but I wouldn't do it every day.

We'll for the pure health aspect of it I guess. I feel they both have their pluses. Jogging is more relaxing. And I will def do it still

Obviously I'm just starting, but occordung to the little research I did, I think that running you can do for hours. I did HIIT body weight training and I feel that both sprinting and body widget are nice HIIT. But sometimes I have cheat days and eat carbful diets. Anecdotally speaking, jogging is simpler to get back in shape. It shaves off my belly. HIIT is better for toning. Long distance seemed better because I have burned up to 2000 calories in one session. Spiriting you apparently shouldn't push past 30 mins but your muscles also suck up fat

Idk I am just saying I don't think it's black and white like that

Never really was into sprinting...

I have Blount's Disease (bowing of the bones in your legs)... and although it has been corrected with 17-18 surgeries... I can't really RUN anyways...

However, my doctors/surgeons told me that they would not recommend running at all.

It puts a lot of jarring on your knees which will wear them down very quickly. My orthopedic surgeon confirmed this and said that he would recommend just walking - equal exercise, and no long term damage that will force you to have knee replacements at 50. >_>

But that's just me. I'd rather just walk around and take a casual stroll out on some nature trails... rather than full-on sprint for 5 miles, come home to ridiculously sore legs and question why I ever exercised lol
