Would you say it's not a big thing to purchase live lobster?

Big thing as in big deal? or as in a lot of people do it?

I don't think it's very popular, but when I go to stores with tanks I ocassionally see people buying some.

And I wouldn't really say it's a big deal when we get them, but we definitely don't do it very often, usually for cookouts and father's day and shit.

I don't even personally like lobster.

They're expensive but it's not like some crazy luxury item or anything, I checked the online flyer for the Chinese grocery store I was thinking of and they're $7 a pound right now.

It's possibe to serve lobster like sushi? I've been a sushi addict for close to 15 years now and have never seen lobster as a option. Seems like it would be pretty damn delicious

Yeah I'm right there with you, trying to imagine the taste of uncooked lobster.  I wonder what the texture is like.  Personally I think it would be unpleasant relative to the taste, but that's just speculation on my part.

It's basically very similar to amaebi (sweet shrimp, the big kind). They also typically select lobsters that are around the same size as jumbo shrimp for sashimi. Notice that these lobsters are a different color too, not grey, but red while raw.

a store in the next town just went through a major remodel, expanded and
started carrying a lot more stuff, one thing they started carrying was
live lobsters

I can't say I've ever been in the position to be able to spend $250 on a meal and think nothing of it.  How was the lobster prepared?

I was an expensive sushi restaurant years ago, and the next table over ordered lobster. It was still alive when they brought it to the table. The shell had been removed, and the couple used little spoons to eat the insides as the legs twitched.

Live sashimi is the best hands down. I've eaten live squid, live crab, and live sea urchin, and nothing tastes fresher.

Well that settles it, going to Chinatown tomorrow. Can't believe I've been buying frozen tails at triple that price. Hell maybe they'll have live salmon for $5 a fish too...

Maybe. I haven't taken notice, they have too many fish at the market for me to name all of them.

But it's a good thing we're eating those. We should eat all top predators, such as those fish and alligators. Kill the nasty little beasts and eat them for lunch. :hehehe:

I never understood why supermarkets always only serve the tail. I personally don't even think the tail is the best part. The best part are the claws and the tomalley.

What cheeses would go well with a gator tail and lobster meat pizza?

Back in the '80s when I had food stamps, I bought 2 live lobsters, some jumbo shrimp and a jar of caviar just for shits and giggles. We wanted some thing exotic to go with our Reagan Cheese.

The check out lady looked at me like I was an ungrateful piece of shit...  . . . :peace:
