I didn't think it was so long at first.

This is really awesome actually.
He's very articulate and I like the way he uses his words.
Especially for what we would stereotype as an inmate's potential on the matter.

He slit a mans throat and held him down while an accomplice finished the job.

He's getting exactly what he deserves. The only sad part is the state will be merciful in how they execute him.

Are you sure this is legit?

I was under the impression that due to the 2005 Roper v. Simmons case the death penalty for minors(at the time of the crime) was overturned in many states by the Supreme Court. That is, the death penalty for those who had committed their crimes under 18 years of age was marked as cruel and unusual punishment which violates the eighth amendment.

I believe that Jasper could appeal his case.

At the time of the murder, this scumbag was (fortunately) 18yrs, 3mths and 4 days old.

Cook him.

DOB: 1980-08-25

DOC: 1998-11-29

Too bad for him that he didn't take the time to do the math.

Oh snap! Where did you see his exact age?

I still think that one could submit an amicus brief and question the decision for death penalty.

At least an appeal would buy him some time.

His case seems especially sensitive (due to his age) which makes it interesting to all sorts of people and organizations.

Is there a place where we can read summaries of court trials on the internet?

He's had 14 years since the date of conviction and 16 years since the murder. How much time has the victim received?

They should have executed him long ago.

Oh yes. I missed that. Sorry.

Still, I think an amicus brief could be submitted on his part. Just because he was borderline 19 years of age.

Though I don't doubt that his attorneys have already tried similar things.

I don't like the death penalty. Sure we have to house and pay for inmates but we can also put them to work making pillow cases or potato sacks (etc.). I just don't like the death penalty -- the idea of counting down your days. It seems torturous.

When he was just over 18.

He was just merely leaving adolescence. How smart do you think this guy was? His education is said to be at an 8th grade level. Or course the crime was idiocy.

I think adolescence needs to be taken into consideration. Maturation has not fully occurred in my unprofessional opinion. Forensic psychologists are the ones who could be used as amicus curiae to appeal the case.

Me?

I just wonder about maturation in the brain. So we (psychology students) have been told that adolescents are typically hyper because of the frontal lobe in their brains matures slower than their amygdala and thus they cannot control their urges and excitatory impulses nearly as well as an adult.

But, this man was 18 and some months years old. Still, I think that once the frontal lobe and amygdala become proportionate that there is a time period in which the new found young adult must learn to think in a new way. Now since the brain is proportionate and the person may reason better they must learn to use their new reasoning abilities. And so I am not too sure that Jasper deserves the death sentence.

I wonder how his victim felt while his throat was being cut, then being held
down by your assailants to have them finish him off. I bet it was torturous

this worthless turd has been sentenced to die but he's had more than a decade
to live a relatively decent life in a cell by himself, 3 meals a day, shelter
and a bed to sleep in. his victim got the chance to bleed out in agonizing
pain and the family of the victim has to endure the loss of not just the man
but also what he provided

maybe if jasper would have taken some responsibility for his part in this
murder then I'd have a small amount of sympathy but instead, he like to
portray himself as a victim so let him be what he claims he is, another
victim of the executioner's needle

I knew someone would say this. It is always said.

So does our society take an "eye for an eye" stance?

Are we not better than that? That's what I wonder.

I believe in rehabilitation.

That certainly is his reality. So be it.

I know a guatamalan that can not read or write, his level of education is
below that of a 2nd grader and yet he works hard to provide for his family
and has never once committed a murder. there are many millions of people
with little or no education that havent murdered anyone so why now does this
very 'articulate' murderer get some sort of excuse simply because he has an
8th grade education

why? is it because every 18yo man decides to murder someone and somehow
this case is one of the few ever prosecuted?

or maybe he was an opportunistic parasite that saw a chance to equip his
'new record label' and rap group with free equipment that belonged to
someone else. I know that I didnt have an issue controlling my impulses at
18 which is why I wasnt imprisoned for murder and why the vast majority of
18 year olds arent on trial today

isnt 18 years plenty of time to learn that it's wrong to kill, how many
people have you killed when you were 18, seems there are no 'buts'

That would be pretty hard for the family if they went to jail and he was still hanging out there
