Sleep issues
    #19588192 -

Hello, this is my first post on shroomery obviously. Either way 2 months after ingesting close to an OZ of magicmushrooms I still cannot manage to fall asleep until I finally pass out from sheer well idk what to call it. I've slept 10 times in 2 and a half months and I no longer feel tired. Does anyone know how to combat this? its been getting better (aka being able to fall asleep in about 4 days as compared to 9-10 days)

You never feel tired??

Try ear plugs, they worked for me, I am very sensitive to sound.

I have and they have just made me very clumsy and drowsy but cannot actually put me asleep. I talked to my doctor and with the whole patient confidentiality thing I let him know that it started after the mushrooms. He said It could be a form of PTSD but I was unaware mushrooms could cause PTSD. He recommended intensive therapy and refered me some kind of psyche doctor but I don't think that will help.

----EDIT----
And its not exactly not feeling tired. Its hard to explain. I want to sleep, I want to sleep so bad it makes me start crying because I am so out of it but I just don't fall asleep. Ive layed in bed after days of being awake eyes closed for 12+ hours and just wont fall asleep. no refreshing of energy nothing. I cannot take it anymore

Mushrooms can't cause PTSD, traumatizing experiences or repetetive exposure to high stress situations can..

Don't take any Psychiatric medications..

With time this probably should go away.

Another thing I recommend is going to see a Hypnotherapist, tell them you are not able to fall asleep. People swear by this..

Trust me I had very bad insomnia for a couple years and I was going to see a hypnotherapist , but then I tried ear plugs and wala

If the hypnotherapist doesn't work then I would say maybe try listening to a hypnotherapy audio recording of some sort at night.

I think im to much of a skeptic for hypnotherapy. But thank you for the idea. I also do not think it is sound causing it at all. And as for you saying with time it should go away I think it may be but its taking quiet a while. it is decreasing in severity but still its taking a serious toll on my mental health. Ever been awake for 11 days straight... It hurts, It drives you insane.

I have never been  up that long, you should just give hypnotherapy a try man, it wouldn't hurt would it??

I would do some research on a good hypnotherapist in your area though, try to find a well reviewed one.

Maybe you can try Kratom, some of the strains are sedative and could possibly help you sleep. but you would have to take more and more over time and it can get costly if you do it daily but if you have the money maybe it would be worth it.

Or maybe you can get a prescription for medical marijuana and get a strain high in CBD (the stuff that makes you hungry/tired)

I hope you get well soon man, I know insomnia is hell.

It started the day I ate the mushrooms dec 6th (my birthday) I didn't sleep for 9~11 days after I came down from the trip. And its just like I lay there and do what I normally do which is nothing at all just wait for me to fall asleep. But now I just wait... and wait... and wait and eventually I just get irritated and give up trying and go watch tv or go walk/run around my district (also lost 30lbs in the past two months from the exorcise so something good is happening) and then when I get back I try to fall back asleep and still nothing.

So if your on a 10 gram mushroom trip. And you think your mushrooms have a mold on it, that can stop your heart or shut down your liver any moment.this thought that manifests from tripping so heavily and being out of control, very impulsive and irrational thoughts and feelings that pursue,  And your tripping and now thinking your going to die for 7 straight hours any moment. And your in fight or flight mode crying your eyes out during this.  You can't get ptsd from that experience?

That's bulshit of course you can. You don't have any experience with PTSD

You sure can get PTSD from shrooms or any other psychedelic.

I've seen it happen to a buddy of mind in high school. He ended up dropping a few tabs of acid and a few hours later he starts freaking out yelling and fighting off everybody trying to help him. Thought he was dying and that his organs were shutting down. Although he was screaming for an ambulance, somebody was able to give him some valium which stopped the tantrum. He was a very different person for a good year; unusually quiet and would tell us about his flashbacks (PTSD)

mushrooms induce enlightenment, if you are NOT TRIED you do NOT NEED TO SLEEP

everyone else will confuse you, they are  confused and ignorant.  don't worry about it, meditate, lie in bed, be calm and peaceful during the bed time hours

IF you  are feeling TIRED and NOT GETTING REST then you need sleep. there are humans that don't even need to eat food on this planet earth. and those that starve to death from anorexia.

drink calming tea i recommend for a start though, tension tamer tea with hops in it,  an ounce is a lot of mushrooms to eat you rewired your brain to be more nimble, you evolved your consciousness.  don't take a sleeping pill like ambien they are very bad for you, a recent study proved they lower the number of years we live also.

when i took LSD  thursday i slept 2 hours for the next couple of days, maybe 4, i felt like i slept 8-10 ,  its normal.

if you do yoga poses as long as you can when you are *falling asleep* you enter a trance and don't sleep , then you aren't tired and don't need sleep, there are plenty of people that don't NEED sleep,  i promise there are people that don't NEED food, or water,  you can look this up , its been proven a bit with our foolish science as well.

Lots of shot-in-the-dark suggestions and advice going around. Obviously, you need to fucking sleep and you need water and all that. If you didn't, I don't think you would be asking for help. So ignore the bullshit.

What hasn't been asked: do you feel that this experience was traumatizing? What was the trip like? Is there anything that really stirred some conflict within you that you can say you are having trouble dealing with?

In the meantime, try to enhance your circadian rhythm. Expose yourself to bright light (daylight preferably) early in the morning. Eat protein in the morning. Exercise in the morning. Taking vitamin D in the morning may also help. Then have a carb-heavy meal for dinner (preferably a rice or potato dish). Black out your room because any light {even a tiny amount that penetrates your closed eyelid) can seriously disrupt your melatonin production. At this point, you probably want to take a melatonin supplement about an hour before you go to bed as well. You only need the smallest amount - 300 micrograms is fine. If you can't get your room pitch black, wear a sleep mask - they cost 10 or 15 bucks. All of this stuff definitely has science behind it.

If you do feel traumatized by the experience in some way, and you can find a good source of MDMA, one or two doses a couple months apart can really help (a dose is about 135 mg). It sure did something to help me with one of my DMT trips. But don't take it at night!!

Hey sorry my internet has been down (imagine my problem without even simple entertainment like tv and internet...) Either way it has not got much better if any at all. And to answer the question the trip was the most horrible thing in my life and left me completely confused about everything I ever understood. This was the first time I ever had taken any hallucinogen. It started with me picking up 3.5 grams of shrooms off my buddy. I went to my friends house around I would say 10:30 and ate them and was the only person at the house (he was still at work). He got back at midnight and showed up with somewhere around a quarter pound of mushrooms and by that time I was already mildly tripping and enjoying it very much. I had no idea he was bringing any but I had permission from him to trip in his house. He then offered me well even more and I figured I was doing fine so I ate some more. I kept forgetting if I ate any he gave me so I kept eating and eating till I noticed they were gone and he told me I ate an ounce of them. I started to freak out. From there it was all down hill till about 10am when I finally I guess came all the way down? I still am not sure I was completely down though. Durring the trip I started to see the tv melt and bubble with green gas which made me think a toxic gas was going into my body and i was panicking. Eventually he calmed me down and I was steady until about 6:15am I just started freaking out again for no reason and he was passed out in his room and his roommate was up getting ready for work I told her that I had to go for a walk because I was freaking out (my coping mechanism for everything is walking and she knew it) and she said ok and told me she would leave the door unlocked for me to come back. I left at exactly 6:22am, I remember because I checked the clock over and over and over because I couldn't remember the time. The sun was just peaking over the hill infront of the house. I walked down to the corner store (30 minute walk sober from the house) It seemed as if it took years but I believe I looked fine walking to all the people driving because 2 cops past and didnt stop (thank god). I got there stood outside for what I think was maybe 5 minutes trying to compose myself to get a pack of cigs from the employee who hates me happened to be working. I went in said "Newport 100's box". Atleast I thought I did. He handed me camel crush and I didnt even question paid and left without saying another word. I went outside and lit up a cigarette and I was tripping so hard I knew I would still be tripping by the time I got back so I decided to just keep walking around my district. I had to have walked for what I mapped out a few days after to be 7.4 miles and arrived back at the house I left at with half a pack of cigs because I was smoking walking. The whole time it felt like demons were talking inside my head telling me to jump infront of each car that passed and end the trip but I didnt. I walked in the door and saw the clock... And this is the part that I think broke my mind. It was only 6:24am. My friends roommate was just tieing her shoes about to walk out the door to go to work. I went to the couch sat down and everything faded away from me. I closed my eyes and felt myself from a third person view but it wasnt like normal sight (im sorry im bad at describing it was my first time ever doing a hallucinogen) Everything around me went black then I dissapeared but felt myself lay down on the couch. I then thought that it was a 30 minute walk MINIMUM just to get to the corner store and 30 minute walk MINIMUM back thats an hour + the time I spent outside the store trying to bring myself to buy a pack + the time I spent walking around trying to sober up. I thought to myself maybe I just drempt it all and im just tripping hardcore and I felt a bit better and thought its just the drugs. Until I opened my eyes stood up to get some water cause my lips were dry as a bone I dropped my pack of cigarettes. It clicked in my head at that moment cigarettes... I had a half full pack of cigarettes that I just smoked in 2 minutes. I couldnt handle it anymore and just sat down in the bathroom crying for the next 4ish hours till I stopped tripping which felt like an eternity. Since then I cant sleep.
Also sorry for the whole one long paragraph thing I'm on 5 days no sleep now and it was hard enough just to type that without freaking out.

I'm sorry, that sounds really rough. I think others are probably correct that you are suffering from something similar to PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Do you feel chronically anxious or frightened?

I think it is definitely healthy to write about it, even though it may be uncomfortable. One treatment that has been shown really effective for war veterans is to have them play a computer video game that reenacts the event that caused them PTSD. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it lets them relive the event when they know they are physically safe, and it therefore takes some of the power away from it. That is why MDMA is so effective - you can confront painful experiences from a confident state of mind and realize that you don't need to be a prisoner of your past experience.

Have you tried any supplements or sleep aids? Sometimes you need a temporary bandage for the wound to start healing.

OP, in no particular order:

- I have this feeling you're probably trolling. If you actually measured your real sleep / awake cycle, you'd definitely find you do micro-naps of some length, if you spend time in bed you do doze off for some periods, etc.

- If indeed what you say is true, I'd try the following (and try not just one day or two, but give it a week at least):

- Melatonin. Take 30-40 mins before going to bed.

- Go to bed at night, get up in the morning and GO OUTSIDE.

- Once outside, work out. Preferably do sprints, get that heart rate up and find some OK way to get exhausted. This will help you sleep later, when evening comes again. First day or two you may feel like shit, but don't give up, continue showing up every day. Even if you don't run at all, put on those sneakers and show up outside, every morning without fail. This WILL help regulate your cycles. If running, don't go for slow long runs, but short sprints as fast as you can.

- In the evening, avoid computer monitors and TV. Do all of that during the day and make sure your computer is off, 2-3 hours before going to bed. If you leave it on for downloads or whatever, turn the monitor off (or close lid on laptop). Read boring books (not fiction) as those turn most people sleepy in the evening. Goes without saying you don't want the fan of a computer humming in your room all night, so try getting as much silence and darkness as possible.

- Finally, get this mp3 called Paul McKenna - Sleep Like a Log. It's 2 files. One of them explains general good practices about sleeping, the second one is a hypnosis induction. I've never heard the end of it, nor has anybody I've ever given it to, ever heard the end of it. 10 mins in, 15 tops, most people doze off and wake up hours later. There's nothing weird about this, it's just the quality of the thing being awesome.

Do a few of these (the more the better) and you should see a distinct rise in how much sleep you get, compared to now. I'd say probably the sunlight and exercise are way more important than all the rest (and they're free) so if you can only do a few, do those. Whether the mp3 or the melatonin works better, that you'll have to test.

Sweet dreams :nyan:
