You won't find the enlightened philosophical greece without a time machine though. There isn't a line of tradition from then to now.

How about the netherlands?

I would like to go there, but unfortunately the person that I'm going to be going with does not do drugs. Doesn't even drink or smoke weed, really.

Enjoywho: Already been to Sweden, but why do you think that Spain should be the #1 destination?

I forgot to add, if you're going to recommend a country, perhaps you should elaborate and say WHY, like what's so good about this country that I should make it my top priority?

So you mean your mom is taking your on a trip right?

LOL, nice try. I make more money than my mom.

But, even if I didn't, you do realize I'm almost 30 years old, and not some 18 year old kid, right?

Greece is beautiful from pictures that I've seen.

How is it now though, post bankruptcy? Is crime pretty high now?

I don't care about drug laws, I don't visit other countries to take drugs there lol.

If you go to the islands and resort areas, it's fine.  Even in Athens, which is the most dysfunctional part of the country right now, it's not outrageously dangerous, just have to use common sense.  Thessaloniki would be an awesome city to see.

However, as I said before--I recommend Croatia and Bosnia!  Croatia is as beautiful as Greece IMO, and less expensive and not as touristy.  It also has more outdoor adventure opportunities like island-hopping, long hikes, lake swimming, etc.  And Bosnia, while it doesn't have any coast to speak of, is easy to get to from there, even cheaper, and spectacularly beautiful.  Lots of pristine forests and things you wouldn't associate with Europe, and Sarajevo is a really fun and interesting city.

Would Bosnia be safe to travel alone as a woman though? I know there's tons of violent protests going on in Bosnia atm.

I'd really like to go to Egypt but a few people advised me on not going by myself, and that I should have a male escorting me. Obviously they're a little different though, cause of Muslim laws and all that.

It's safe to travel pretty much anywhere as a woman, you just have to be smart.  My aunt has travelled all over the world by herself and has only been in sort of rough situations a handful of times.  She goes to all the super poor countries and does crazy backpacking and stuff too.

Damn, I hadn't heard anything about violent protests there, just reading now about them.  When I was there it could not have been more chilled.  Bosnia is actually a Muslim majority country I believe, but it's not a fundamentalist society and women are treated fine in public no matter how they dress.  I hesitate to say it's safe for a woman to travel alone there -- probably less safe than in Germany or France, for example, but certainly safer than Egypt or other less stable countries.  There's also a language issue--I think it's easier to get around Croatia with no English than Bosnia.  But if you were with friends there'd be no problems.

Yup, perfectly safe. If you decide to hang out in dodgy spots you may encounter some trouble, but not any more than in any other country. Drunks and criminals are pretty much the same everywhere. And the vast majority of crimes in Croatia during the summer are committed by foreign tourists, the worst the locals would do to you is charge you 30% more for some produce because you're a tourist.
The violent protests  are against the government, and just in major cities, they have calmed down now, in a week everything will be back to normal, albeit with half the city destroyed.

If you're into natural beauties and outdoorsy stuff, here's a glimpse: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Yeah I'm not really sure what that meant.  I went to Italy in the summer as well.  There's lots of great things to do there.

It's good to go south in the summer, IMO, to the Amalfi coast, Puglia or Calabria, and Sicily.  If you go to Florence or Venice in the summer it's awful, because it's hot, humid, absolutely full of tourists with no locals to be found, and full of overpriced shit food, drinks, and shops.  The south is hot as hell too but less crowded with tourists, with better beaches and better food, and things cost about half as much (with the exception of Amalfi, which is expensive).

One thing you have to know about Italians, they are notorious for refusing to learn any other language. Even more so than the French. The ones that had to learn some English for their job or in school will pretend not to understand you, and will only communicate in Italian. Especially younger people. Of course, not everyone is like that, but a much larger percentage than in countries without a 'famous' language.

Damn! I just found out my best friend packed up and moved to Hawaii without telling anybody!

Turns out I'm going to go visit him this spring. It'll be great because I can crash at his apartment, I won't have to spend any money on hotel.

He's on the Big Island, though I'm not sure what part. I'll probably rent a car so I can get around.

But I DEFINITELY want to swim with dolphins!!! I have swam with dolphins in the past, but only dolphins kept in captivity, and I have ALWAYS wanted to swim with them out in their natural habitat!

http://adventureinhawaii.com/bigisland_swim_with_dolphins.htm?gclid=CJnM4fvSvLwCFQVafgodLXUAjA

I want to go on one of these snorkeling tours too:

http://adventureinhawaii.com/bigisland-hawaii-oceanic.htm

http://adventureinhawaii.com/bigisland_snorkeling.htm

And of course I will be taking loads of drugs with him. He said that literally there are so many drugs, every single person out where he lives does drugs and he will get approached by like 20 guys just walking down the street trying to sell him drugs. And BOMB-ASS psychedelics too.

Can't wait to get my hands on some MXE.
