Boletus satans is rare as hell, has anyone found it?

please dont rip it out of the ground with a vigilant thrust and count the mycorhizzal threads and juggle them around in the forest because you cannot juggle more than two!

anyway, being as serious as mr. bush, i must say that Boletus satans tends to have a white-gray cap, and not that color cap.

that mushroom is spectacular though were did you find it, whose is it?

I dont know what it is, but, I found AT LEAST 50 specimens last year... They were everywhere I saw an oak tree for a few weeks. They would be growing underground, just like a King bolete. They were enormous as well. Beautiful colors. Check out the hunting FAQ here on the shroomery and see a few pics I took, or here.. :wink:



It would bruise blue in a matter of seconds, just by barely touching it:


I wouldnt eat it though... I mean, they are Boletus satanas .. "Satans Bolete" !!!  :crazy:

yea that looks like a positive id for Boletus satanas. really really cool, do you have any other neat pictures of it?

in poland this mushroom is basically gone although it used to be found. now, other mushrooms such as Tylopilus felleus and red-pored deamons are dubbed "Szatan" or "Satan." According to Mr. Arora, B. satanas is only found in Cali and Europe. B. satanas is more prevalent in southern european countries (into Slovakia and Hungary and Italy etc.) I will be very excited when i find this mushroom.
