is a dmt source plant like ayahuasca easy to cultivate?
    #19446225 -

I've never tried ayahuasca or any DMT. Just curious about it. I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I don't see it as having the same legal status of psilocybin mushrooms, but I'm sure it is illegal since it is a hallucinogenic. I'm only interested in natural psychedelics like shrooms and now, looking into plants that are DMT source. Ayahuasca is one. Are the others just too obscure to even be talked about?

Ayahuasca doesn't contain any DMT, but MAOI alkaloids that make DMT orally active.
Most DMT containing plants are not easy to cultivate, need tropical conditions, and grow slowly.
Some Phallaris grasses contain DMT among other toxic alkaloids, and are relatively easy(er) to grow.

Mimosa hostilis is a very easy to grow DMT containing plant.

DMT containing Acacias are very easy to grow in most climates and is ready to utilise within a few years. Much better than Mimosa imo, I have a report to post about this very soon. Just finalising some figures.....

maybe I misread the info. I read? I read ayahuasca is used by amazonian indian tribes for its hallucinogenic effects which is the DMT. What your saying is since humans have DMT in their body, the MAOI alkaloid in ayahuasca stimulates the DMT we have?

There isn't too much information on the sorts of soil conditions Acaias can be grown in. They won't handle heavy clay soils will they? What about consistently wet conditions? I have read again and again that they hate being transplanted and grown in pots which is a trait which is a barrier to many.

No, what he is referring to as "Ayahuasca" is the B. caapi vine, or the "Vine of the Souls" as it is called by the shamanic communities. The DMT containing plant typically used is Psychotria Viridis.

MAO - Monoamine Oxidase - an enzyme our stomach contains that destroys certain "foreign" chemicals on contact. DMT is one of those.

MAOI - Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor - Any one of MAOI containing plants (Syrian Rue, B Caapi, even anti depressants often have them) can inhibit this action, allowing DMT to be absorbed by the stomach, instead of destroyed.

Does anyone have any experience with Phallaris grasses and it's potency vs Psychotria Viridis or other widely used DMT containing plants?

Well I can confirm the growing in pots is a myth. I have half a dozen 5 foot+ trees in pots, and they're doing fine. Transplanting I'm not sure about, young ones should do fine. Most Acacias used in landscape plantings down here come from nursery grown stock, pot sizes up to 750mm and up.

Clay soils not too sure, some species like floribunda and maindenii should do ok. I've seen them grow on poor topsoil, roughly 150mm deep and then into hard red clay below. Some can handle moist conditions, ones in the south east of australia receive a lot of rain at times.

I'm planning a write up on this genus soon, with confirmed extraction results These are from cultivated trees as well.

Some Ayahuasca analogs (brews) do not contain any DMT containing plant at all. But if they do it's typically P. viridis.

There is ayahuasca the plant, and ayahuasca the drink. Ayahuasca the plant (Banisteriopsis caapi) does not contain any DMT. Ayahuasca the drink is traditionally made with ayahuasca the plant plus a DMT containing plant, and consequently does contain DMT.

I heard about Acacias, but thought they also grew in sub tropical climates, and take many years to grow big enough for root bark to be harvested. Thanks!

so for ayahuasca (the drink) to contain any DMT it must be stacked with another plant source that contains DMT? what you are saying here is that ayahuasca does not have DMT then? Ayahuasca the drink is from what breed? Isn't is banisteriopsis caapi? So why wouldn't it have DMT?

Also, does DMT have the same level of purported "healing powers" as other hallucinogenics like psilocybin and LSD? I haven't read much about it. Maybe it wasn't as well studied?

Ayahuasca the drink is made from Ayahuasca plant (B. caapi) + a DMT containing plant (traditionally Psychotria viridis, or commonly today Mimosa/Acacia rootbark).
I'm not much into that aspect of botany, but from what I've read Ayahuasca seems to be THE ONE when it comes to spiritual and physical healing in South American cultures.

Does Nestle sell ayahuasca "the drink"? LOL.

From what I read only ayahuasca is used by the tribes for their hallucinogenic rituals. Yet you guys are saying ayahuasca does not contain DMT. What does it contain that makes it "vital" to using another plant source that "has" DMT like mimosa?

Wouldn't using the sole DMT containing plant by itself be sufficient as the DMT source so why blend ayahuasca with it? Can't one just use mimosa hostilis for the DMT and forget about ayahuasca? I'm not getting this yet...

All your questions are answered throughout this thread

  • DMT isn't orally active.

  • An MAOI is required to prevent the DMT being destroyed in the stomach.

  • Ayahuasca when referring to a single plant, is Banisteriopsis caapi, which has the MAOI.

  • Ayahuasca the drink is a blend, made from a plant containing an MAOI, and a plant containing DMT.

From what I am understanding. The "drink" is mixed with the 2plants because DMT is destroyed by the stomach. You need ayahuasca because it is an MAOI. Which would make the DMT orally active.

would taking another MAOI source work as well or is ayahuasca the preferred choice? Now I get you guys.

"the drink" is then mixed by me? So I'd need ayahuasca and a DMT source (mimosa seem to be preferred in this forum). Now, how much of each in grams must be mixed together? Is this variable as long as both compounds are ingested together? But of course measuring for future reference is always good.

The effects are said to be quick and intense depending on how much is consumed, compared to a few hours trip on shrooms. Right?

We try to keep away from dosage talk in this forum, but for some of the rarer plants it is ok. Our main focus is growing and gardening.
For ayahuasca dosage, you would get better answers in The Psychedelic Experience
