Tranny Police Officer 'unreasonably prone to take offence.' * 1
    #19416354 -

What an interesting world we live in. I especially like how they even introduced "transgender awareness training" to make sure she was feeling welcome by everyone on the force. Now that is courtesy from her fellow bobbies of the highest order. I mean, if I was sent to "transgender awareness training" to make one of my fellow workers feel comfortable I'd know exactly what to say or not say to them, otherwise it would be awkward. And why is there no "tranny" option for the shroomery? Only male and female sexes. I'd also like to see an option for "I'm not sure I never looked down there.", "wizard", "witch", and "I prefer not to say because I don't want to be judged based on whether my sex organs are located on the inside or outside", and "DMT shaman's don't need a sex in hyperspace."

Transsexual PC's case against Essex Police rejected

The tribunal praised Essex Police for introducing transgender awareness training

    Transsexual PC sues Essex police

An employment tribunal has rejected claims of harassment and discrimination by a transsexual police officer, the BBC has learned.

PC Emma Chapman complained she had to "out" herself over a police radio system when working for Essex Police.

But the tribunal said her reaction had been "extreme" and she had been "unreasonably prone to take offence".

PC Chapman, 44, was born male and underwent gender reassignment surgery 14 years ago.

BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw said the case brought against Essex Police was thought to be the first of its kind.

PC Chapman underwent gender reassignment while serving as a volunteer officer with Essex Police in 1999.

Four years later she became a full-time constable and now works on the force's response team. It is thought she is the only transgender officer in the force.
'Very distressed'

Legal documents seen earlier this year by the BBC showed her claim centred on three incidents when she had to speak to the police force's control room via her radio handset.

PC Chapman said that on the first occasion, in October 2012, the operator did not believe who she was, saying she had a "male voice".

She then replied that she was a transsexual.

PC Chapman said she was left feeling "very distressed" that she had been forced to "out" herself over a radio channel that was listened to by hundreds of officers and staff.

She reported what had happened, but claimed Essex Police failed to carry out a full investigation and interview the control room operator.

Two further incidents occurred in June 2013 when the officer was again challenged by control room staff who questioned her identity, according to legal papers.

The officer said the incidents created an "intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment" for her to work in.
Force praised

She sought compensation for injury to her feelings and a declaration of discrimination, and wanted the force to improve the way it dealt with transgender issues.

However, the tribunal said she had been "over sensitive" - probably because she was going through a stressful time in her personal life.

Essex Police was praised by the tribunal for introducing transgender awareness training six months ago.

The judgement was delivered last month but has only just been made public.

The BBC understands that PC Chapman does not wish to appeal against the decision.

True, and also because, "Tranny" more often than not, is used as a degrading term. This may also help to explain why we don't have, "Fag", "Kike" and, "Nigger" categories...

I am aware that you are transgender and I have never thought of the word "tranny" as anything like those other terms you mentioned. Up until this moment I read your post I thought it was simply an abbreviation for "transgendered" which so far as I know it the technical word we're supposed to use.

I would in the light of this new information amend my original post to read " And why is there no "transgender" option for the shroomery? Only male and female sexes. I'd also like to see an option for "I'm not sure I never looked down there.", "wizard", "witch", and "I prefer not to say because I don't want to be judged based on whether my sex organs are located on the inside or outside", and "DMT shaman's don't need a sex in hyperspace.""

Tranny is actually considered an offensive and derogatory term among the TG community. If you want to abbreviate without offending anybody you should simply say "TG."

Good to know, :sun: after this snafu though I think I'll probably just write it out to avoid any further confusion.

Yeah, it is a weird one. It doesn't exactly MEAN anything negative, it just usually is USED that way. Just like faggot means a bundle of sticks... not too bad but it is used negatively more often than not.

Tranny also lumps a lot of different types of people together, transvestites, drag queens and transsexuals. I am nothing like a drag queen.

I am not going to be a language Nazi, I just want people to know.

Look, I have been a part of these forums for over a decade, and what people are often allowed to say here about people like me, compared to what they can freely say about minorities or homosexuals, is stunning. I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that trans folk are relatively rare.

Now, imagine this trans cop, she is hired as a female, she presents as a female, by law, she IS female and then during a call to dispatch, she has to out herself in order to get the fucktard at the other end to do his job, and in the process she outs herself to her coworkers and superiors (although, if her voice was that manly, several of them probably had a hunch), it wasn't just having to out herself, it was having to do it in such an embarrassing and public way. Imagine the jokes told at her expense behind her back. Imagine the changed reactions she got from her coworkers. Imagine using the bathroom or dressing room after this.

"This is Offifer Washington reporting a break in."

"I am sorry, Officer Washington is black."

"Er... Dispatch, I am black."

"You don't sound black. Who is this really?"

"Look Dispatch, a crime is in progress."

"Please put Officer Washington on the line or stop wasting our time."

"I am Officer Washington, my badge number is 368-"

(Click)

"Dispatch? Dispatch?"

Trust me, I have heard worse and I will hear more, but that type of shit does not belong in the workplace. I am pretty forgiving, but I can get fed up with bullshit, just like anyone else.

Did this cop over react? Perhaps. I also think people have trouble understanding why this really is a pretty big issue.

Could have been.

But three times, by the same office?

It is not unreasonable for a police officer to detect a suspicious pattern, after all, isn't that what they are paid to do?

It is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. It could have just as easily been a male police officer with a girly voice.

It is very easy to imagine the dispatche(s) doing this for shits and giggles rather than confirmation purposes in either case.

I don't know about where you've worked, but where I have worked we don't get sent to sensitivity training unless there is a good reason to suspect there was some kind of abuse. It takes hours of productivity away and costs money. People don't just order sensitivity training for their workforce willy nilly. It is more like, "If we don't do something now we will get our ass sued, and we will probably lose."

I could see them doing it as a joke or to be rude too, but still.

Idk, if someone called me with a man voice and said hi this is Mary, I'd be a little sketched out too.

It doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but it seems odd that this ONLY was reported to happen when she called dispatch, not when she called other offices.

I just know from experience that the trans person probably will be cast in a negative light when a thread like this is posted in The Pub.

I am just trying to keep this discussion from being one sided.

Honestly, I rolled my eyes when I read this. The only reason this is news is because she is trans.

I would be much more concerned if the dispatchers refused to help three trans victims.
