New Orleans has been a major port for hundreds of years...the city grew around the ports. I can completely agree its utter stupidity to not have stronger levys and flood prevention in general...hell, they should be ready for the most major storm they could imagine and then some.

They were talking about being millions of dollars in the black from casinos, why didn't they reinforce their safety with the surplus? You can't blame the locals, I don't know if you've been to Lousiana, but there is some extreme and widespread poverty there. I haven't been everywhere in the US, but from the places I've seen, LA, Mississippi, AL, GA, and southern TN have some of the worst poverty and technology for emergency medical response. Priorities need to be set and hopefully other coastal cities will realize that from this disaster.

I don't think I've quoted any bullshit hype about the faults (plural, not just San Andreas), I'm just saying your odds are not exponentially better, at least not enough to pat your city engineers on the back, of surviving when earthquakes do happen (I'm not talking the "big one", I'm talking sequential small ones that cause massive flooding and landslides).

http://www.sdnhm.org/research/paleontology/sdfaults.html says they have increased since 84', long after they began monitoring heavily. I live on a major Appalachian fault line and we've had a couple of earthquakes in the last few months. I'm not shitting bricks in anticipation, but I realize that any moment the earth could shift and we could be just as bad off as anywhere else hit by natural disaster. Its silly to blame citizens and engineers for living somewhere...especially a VITAL port city. I could rant on and on about those crazy bastards in Hawaii, but I won't. You live, you die, it can happen anywhere.

right now, i am in contact with multiple people via text messaging who are in biloxi, MS, as well as on the outskirts of New Orleans.

As much as I am all for volunteer effort and selfless aid (even though FEMA is supposedly paying 25 dph for labor), I would not advise anyone to go down, or anywhere near New Orleans. As far north as Jackson, MS if you can find gas, the price isnt even posted. There is no clean drinking water, no ice, and hardly any food.

If you really want to help, go to the gulf coast regions like mobile and biloxi, even though they are telling people not to come down.

Google Earth images of the coast available today... The program never would work on my comp, if someone could post screenshots or something that would be nice.

Did you know that NO. had the highest incarceration rate in the world? Most of them were in there for "drugs". I bet they were shooting at the hospital to free the "mental patients" that were false diagnoses. I know a girl who was put in a hospital for 3 years for smoking weed. When she got out she went to school for psychology and became a psycologist to make sure ganjah smokers are free.

The ones you posted are all in code. Every one post more scanner links.
