The Arcade Fire sucks

This has been irking me for a little while.  I'm not normally one to start bashing bands that I don't like.  I usually just don't listen to them.  But living in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the hipster capitol of the world, I have noticed that almost everyone I've met thinks this band is the greatest thing since sliced bread. 

To me, they have the facade of being creative and quirky by having 10 members on stage at a time playing odd instruments.  But the music itself is about as bland as it gets.  It's all image, no content.  Top this off with a level of arrogance displayed by both the band and their fans.  Ok, done.

At their worst they sound like generic car-ad music. Not bad, but a bit bland yes. At their best they're actually pretty good. I think they started the horrible trend of refrains not having words in them but just a lot of whoooah-oh-whoooah-ing.

I went to a concert a few years ago, it was a lot of fun. Didn't know they were still hot. I would have imagined that brooklynites had moved on.

You might be right that hipsters have moved on.  It's funny though because I hadn't really heard of this band until the last year or two, since they got a grammy or whatever.  Musicians in general just don't know who this band is.  Like I actually play with real musicians, and there is a big disconnect between the hipster thing and what's going on in the real music world.

i agree the arcade fire sucks but clam_dude it's "real music" they've been around forever and have a huge following. i remember kinda liking them when they first came out but never thinking they had a substantial style or any really good music. since then i've moved on from almost all indie music. its just so....idk.....like itself for me to enjoy anymore...

Fair enough.  I don't mean that technically, Arcade FIre isn't any part of the "music world". I mean they won a grammy or something right?  What I'm saying is this:  If someone tells me that they like Arcade Fire, I immediately know that this person has no idea who, let's say, Joe Henderson is.  Because if they did know who that is, they wouldn't be listening to Arcade Fire. 

So yeah, Joe Henderson is a jazz musician and that's a big part of the music world.  That doesn't mean only jazz music counts.  Let's say I meet a jazz musician and they say they like Led Zeppelin.  That wouldn't be surprising.  But if they said they like Arcade Fire, my jaw would drop to the floor.

I think you really gotta listen to all of their albums before saying that. I am not a fan whatsoever of the new album, nor was I a huge fan of The Suburbs, it was okay, but not fantastic. Neon Bible I truly do find to be a fantastic album, very interesting, creative, but if your not into that sorta stuff, your probably not gonna like it.

I have noticed though over the past 2 or 3 years though that there are certain bands that are taken up by hipsters and put on a pedestal. First that comes to mind as of recently is Grizzly Bear if you know them. I quite like some indie rock but a lot of it is very boring and repetitive in an unappealing way.

I don't see why. Both are popular rock groups. Neither group does anything overly jazzy or experimental.

That's like saying both McDonald's and (insert fancy restaurant) are the same because they're both popular places to get food.  "rock" music is a pretty broad category.  The difference in musicianship and creativity between the two bands is extreme.

I disagree. I'll buy that the individual members of Led Zep are more talented and creative than the individual members of AF, but the music itself is not exactly groundbreaking.

I'm not trying to put Led Zeppelin on a pedestal, I just chose them randomly as an example of a rock group with some content.

Arcade Fire was vaguely amusing about eight years ago before they had a massive reputation and hipster-cred to void them of all creativity.
Now they're just another shitty hipster-indie band that should be rounded up and executed via chainsaw to the throat.
