Fruiting Chamber Conditions
    #1901841 -

Hi-

I've read all up on the FAQS and still have some questions. My friend has some BRF 1/2 pint jars in a rubbermaid with perlite on the bottom. manual fanning, very simple. This morning the temp was as low as 63 F in the rubbermaid. I know with incubation that approaching 86 degrees just speeds up coloniziation. Is it sort of the same thing with the fruiting chamber? Or is is really important to have it 70-75?

Can it be heated like the incubator with the double rubbermaid and aquarium heater? What else is good?h

Also; the cakes are not fuzzy at all, is this a sign of too low RH?

Thanks to shroomery for helping my friend finally get those cakes birthed. And yes he will try casing after success with cakes.

Thanks-

Ya I've read that FAQ page. My question was more along the lines of...

If you incubate at 10-15 below optimal you will just slow down the process. Is the same true for fruiting or will this severely impair pinning and fruiting?

Hi-

hi

yep and heat mats or a light or a room space heater

Also; the cakes are not fuzzy at all, is this a sign of too low RH?

my foaf's pmp(magash is the creator) has heaps of humidity(no fanning, constant air exchange, all fuzzy and starting to pin.

make the magash pmp, its relatively inexpensive and worth the effort.
my foaf is a newbie and hasn't had a problem yet!

Seriously does anyone have a valid opinion on whether or not fruiting in 60-70 degrees is OK?

(still no pins or fuzziness 5 days after birthing)

i do, it's not optimal. meaning... if you run that low it will cause the good stuff to slow growth so much that it might stun it, and have it'll have a tendancy to turn over to some nasty stuff... aka CONTAMS!

g'luck bro.

Try to keep temp in the minimum range of 72 - 76 (incubating jars at 80-84) , anything below will try your patience to the point of insanity
Keep house temp up with central heating system . Humans also do best in 75 - 84 range , just like mushies
Good Luck

When the temp drops it is a signal for the mycelia to begin pinning. I have had mushrooms pop at 68 degrees.

Thanks for the responses. Since then the temps in the chamber are more like 70-80.

AND...the real fun has started! One of them is 1 inch so far and there are are a bunch more pins.

finally!
