try 'peat'

peatmoss and sphagnum moss are used interchangeably by some. if not identical, they're certainly related: put it this way, if they had kids together, they'd have long necks and six or seven fingers. it's fairly acidic, so it'll need some chalk or oyster, or sparing amounts of lime.

oyster shells and lime ?

lime is calcium hydroxide. strong stuff.
chalk is calcium carbonate - no, you can't use blackboard chalk.

people use two buffers so they have an immediate (eg chalk) and slow release (eg oyster) things to mop up the spare protons.

why lime? that will only make it more acidic. Gypsum calcium sulfate CaSO4 is what Stamets says to balance pH. Gypsum raises pH, so if the pH is acidic add gypsum to bring level closer to 7 or nuetral.

@Thats it
lime is not acidic ! its just the other thing ! and very strong !
so please dont write as you would be an expert, cause its not true what your saying !
I?m really sorry to tell you, but you should think about, that real newbs read your posts and take it for real !

Here?s a sample of stamets :

The recipe is originally from Growing Gourmet & Medicinal Mushrooms, by Stamets.

Use the following procedure to create the casing material. Then substitute it into any casing method.

Ingredients:

10 units peat
1 unit calcium sulfate (gypsum)
1 unit calcium carbonate (chalk)

Procedure:

Use calcium carbonate to adjust pH of peat.

I buy mine in the chemistry supply shop. Around 2 euro for 1 kg.^

I pasteurize the mixture for 10 minutes in a plastic bag in the microwave.

My mistake Mr. "Expert" invi. I guess you didn't see the question mark at the end of the sentence. You must have been blinded by your knowledge.
