Cat litter heroin gang faces jail

Five men who tried to smuggle ?30m of heroin from Turkey to Wales hidden in a cat litter shipment are facing jail.

John Dalgleish, of Waun Sidan, Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, and Grant Connors, from Whalebone Lane, Romford, Essex, were convicted on Thursday.

Hamim Soylu, from Kent, Sakip Gundoglu, from Buckinghamshire, and Muzaffer Arslanoglu, from London, had previously pleaded guilty at Harrow Crown Court.

Dalgleish and Connors had denied conspiring to smuggle drugs.

Police and customs officers had watched the gang's movements for years.

Police sting

The court heard how the gang had intended to smuggle 160 tons (389 kilos) of high-grade heroin from Istanbul to a warehouse owned by Dalgleish, by disguising it inside cat litter sacks.

The group toasted the plan with champagne as the shipment began its journey but did not know they were the subject of a combined police and customs sting operation.

When the lorry carrying the 21 pallets of litter, with 14 boxes of drugs hidden in two of them, officers swapped them for self-raising flour.

The court heard that when the consignment arrived at the warehouse the numbered sacks had become mixed up.

Surveillance cameras

Officers taking part in Operation Homespun then watched the defendants, via secret surveillance cameras, as they frantically speared the sacks with metal bars to find the ones containing the boxes of heroin.

They eventually found the right ones after a steady stream of odour-killing cat litter had poured onto the floor, the jury was told.

They were seen shaking hands, not realising the packages had been switched.

Four minutes later they walked out of the warehouse, where police were waiting to handcuff them.

Dalgleish, 57, Connors, 45, Soylu, 50, Gundoglu, 52, and Arslanoglu, 45, were remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced at Harrow Crown Court at a later date.

They can't tell the difference between flour and heroin?? Damn shame though, I am guessing it was #4 as I am assuming it was white, that shit is beyond rare in the UK. In fact I have never even heard of anyone getting white dope in the UK unless they ordered it from SR etc.

Fucking pigs. :ass:

If you're familiar with the band Dead Kennedys, the former singer Jello Biafra mentions in his spoken word album "I Blow Minds for a Living" that East Bay Ray missed rehearsal one time because he got hung up for several hours on the Golden Gate Bridge due to a haz-mat team inspecting a spilled barrel of a "suspicious looking white powder," which turned out to be nothing more than flour.
Yeah, the piggies really aren't all that bright.

Nice. Love the Kennedys, thanks for reminding me to get some of Jello's other stuff, one of those things I have been meaning to do for YEARS and somehow never get around to.

:hatsoff:

Hell yeah! I finally was able to find that album since I had only really heard a few tracks, but there are quite a few similarities between what he spoke of then and what's going on now.
