July 2009 Interview Wiccan Seeker
Enter, now with the speed pedal down to the floor and breaking records even the Germans would frown upon, calls Shroomery Moderator and longtime member Wiccan Seeker through his blue tooth GPS system to commence a once in a lifetime interview. Ring. Ring Neo.
Enter: How goes it, Seeks?? Wiccan Seeker: All is well, about to head to bed
Enter: Why are we here today and what were you doing the exact moment before the phone rang? Wiccan Seeker: We're here today to do our thing, for the universe's sake.. Actually I was holding my harbl.
Enter: Tell me the three best things about this site (the shroomiest of all that’s shroomy)? Wiccan Seeker: Its a welcoming community to a wide variety of people (thats the glory and the doom right there) most of whom are quite OK, it has great information on psychedelics nowhere else to be found, and its an interesting worldwide social structure.
Enter: Tell me the three top things that you’ve had happen so far in life? Wiccan Seeker: Hahaha no comment :P
Enter: Let’s talk about Amsterdam Bud, kind of. What are a few of the more common, legitimate concerns the general public could have about legalizing marijuana here in North America (Canada, US, outer territories)? Wiccan Seeker: Actually, legalizing cannabis wont be a problem in terms of usage statistics. Its not like everybody will end up using cannabis all of a sudden. A big problem would be if only big cannabis farms were licenced, resulting in mediocre weed becoming the norm. Weed needs the human touch to excell.
Enter: Can we consider plant-influenced mindstates the same thing as "intoxication" or should there be specific words to describe each plant’s influence. For instance, as adaptogens, empathogens, etc to describe what each plant does? Wiccan Seeker: Well you can all group it under intoxication, but it tells little more than that there is a psychoactive effect. I'm for being more descriptive BUT remembering it all boils down, in the end, to intoxication.
Enter: Is a human being more susceptible to manipulation and danger while under the influence of plants and fungi like cannabis, salvia, yage, datura? If so, what dangers are people more likely to expose themselves to? Wiccan Seeker: When you are sober, all your warning and defense systems are in full working order. With thinks like salvia and datura they are far out of balance. People have a lot of inner dialog, most of it is good but not all, and all of it is balanced as a whole. If the balance is disrupted, really wild things can happen. A typical example would be datura, and the unusual numbers of amputations people do under the influence. With Datura you go frankly psychotic. With salvia, there often is a suspension of the sense of reality, which persists longer than the hallucinogenic effects. You can communicate with spirits and only 15 minutes later realize that this is most unusual. At the time it can feel completely normal. Whether you attribute it to inner forces or spirits, in psychedelic states you encounter something that interacts with you.
Enter: Ken Kesey, who seems to have had a lot of conspiracy theory beliefs, once said that there's a substance that allows people to put together certain words to form a belief structure that people who are in power would not want us to find out about. A tad bit paranoid if you ask me, but a sentiment of truth nevertheless. Have you found this to be true and if so, can we carefully elaborate a little on that puzzle of words? Wiccan Seeker: The only thing I can think of is language. A strange thing, language - we are not born with it it is taught us. Almost everything we do in our head as adults revolves around words - what is there when all words are gone? Perhaps the enlightenment eatern religions strive for? Everyone can form a belief structure, but what beliefs could we hold without language? Perhaps we'd be more like Great Apes than we'd feel comfortable with, well some of us.
Enter: How do we balance the burden of making income to get along in life versus sharing and entertaining the concept of oneness? Wiccan Seeker: enjoy what you do and do what you enjoy. ask yourself what you really, really need in life, and what needs the things you buy fulfill. Many people spend most of their money on chasing states of mind, a lamborghini to feel better about themselves. But until they have that fancy car, they settle on not feeling well about themselves. Its an inner choice, and its often about self-acceptance - like many trips have phases where self acceptance is everything. Cut out the car and fulfill your inner need without that fancy car. You get more immediate gratification and you don't have to slave to get the money for it.
Enter: How many forums did the Shroomery first have upon its inception? Wiccan Seeker: Hmmm I wouldnt know.. Two? Mushroom Cultivation and OTD?
Enter: This is one of the first links you'll see on the original Ayahuasca forums: http://forums.ayahuasca.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=13107 It is a safety guide for the individualist. Do we have one of similar comparison on the site anywhere that you'd recommend? Wiccan Seeker: Its an open door, but Erowid's The Psychedelic Experience FAQ is quite good. I can also highly recommend the link in my sig called "Best Tripping Manual. Its amazing what they already knew in the 1950s.
Enter: Is the internet showing a side to “drug culture” – assuming that’s a semi-accurate label – that the world couldn’t see otherwise? Wiccan Seeker: Of course. How can Joe Blow meet the psychedelic subculture and actually ask trippers questions? I'm sure many of the 400.000+ unique visitors the Shroomery gets every month are from famly and friends of trippers investigating what their loved ones are into. Remember also that we are spread over the globe. We have a community that could not exist, were it not for the www.
Enter: How many hits does the Shroomery get every day? Wiccan Seeker: I believe 10.000-20.000 unique visitors. Hits, I have no idea. Zillions
Enter: How many new users register each year? Wiccan Seeker: Ouch! For web stats you really must ask an admin, we mods just serve the drinks and peanuts.
Enter: If either of us were to make a list of how the day went of every human on the planet it would vary extremely. From a newborn baby weeping to an old man breathing his final breath. From a couple in love making love to someone who just lost their job and is confused and angry. Etc. Is the same breadth of experience available on a few-hour-long journey that certain plants and fungi engendor? Wiccan Seeker: I believe any human can experience anything humanly experiencable - but I dont think a human brain has the bandwidth to experience it all simultaneously. When too much happens at once your brain superimposes "I am experiencing everything possible all at once" over what happens, and thats the notion you get. We can experience anything, but not everything at once - provided you believe brain processing is involved in consciousness.
Enter: How “dark” of an item on the list of all that is dark to the human race is a psilocybine mushroom? Wiccan Seeker: Take one white, one black, yin/yang, and blend them. That shade of gray. I believe it is neutral, but because most minds tend to the positive, it has a positive influence, in general.
Enter: In terms of spreading an accurate, multi-sided concept of mushrooms and mushroom-inclusive culture how does this site compare to all others you’ve frequented? Wiccan Seeker: For mushrooms specificaly, this site is nr 1. Its unbelievable how much is here. Here lies knowledge not yet "discovered" by professional mycologists.
Enter: What do our bodies use up chemically during a trip that needs to be replenished during or shortly after the comedown? Wiccan Seeker: A lot of things, but to name the biggest ones, blood glucose and water. You got to eat and drink. Many bad trips are caused by low blood sugar.
Enter: Existential Crisis #99: You’re solo tripping and instead of Oneness it’s Mono Y Mono. What to do. Wiccan Seeker: Masturbate?
Enter: What is your personal definition of a decent friendship? Wiccan Seeker: Love, trust, openness, a sharing of things material and immaterial, and sharing lives. Friendships can exist online - but the real world is the norm. Friends need to fill your senses also.
Enter: What’s the best way to start a friendship without trying to start a friendship like it’s a matter of life and death? Wiccan Seeker: Talk, and go deeper within both your comfort level, and do things together that unify you. Hating something together can form as much a bond as enjoying something together -tuning into each other is important.
Enter: You can imagine being a minority probably and having to demonstrate a more perfect outward life than the majority. Do you think the same holds true for us who naturally enjoy plants that alter awareness? Wiccan Seeker: Well it sure helps the cause and yourself. If people hear you use hallucinogens they will want to judge you and your drug. Stereotypes exist, and some of us live up to some of them. (I do LOL) but as a "druggie" you are often put in a situation of people looking for things that ae wrong, them blaming it on you and your drug. Like other minorities experience it. Beat the prejudices, but above that stay true to yourself.
Enter: One of the themes that has to be in the lives of most people is some level of awkwardness along with some level of anxiety. Can you relate, and if so - what’s the best way to adapt to the more piercing moments of this type of feeling? Wiccan Seeker: The best way to deal with anxiety is to let it happen, but not getting too carried away with what might happen. I've known a lot of anxiety through my life. I had panic disorder secondary to my heart attack. Nothing gets me scared like chest pain and nothing is as bad for chest pain as being scared to death. In case of a panic attack, withdraw in your Observer and watch your body and mind being taken. Stay cool and ride it out.
Enter: Love is… Wiccan Seeker: God.
Thanks!
