Thinkin about droppin some bills on video games today...

ok i haven't really been into video games for nearly a decade. but i do play my brother's games when i visit him. i really like games like assassin's creed and splinter cell, probably going to get GTA 5 too.

so should a get a playstation or xbox? what other games would you recommend me getting since i like stealth fighting games? i also like a ninja game from several years ago but don't remember what it's called...

I'd highly suggest getting a PC and playing PayDay 2.

PS3 is better for graphics and does Blu-Ray; online is free too. AND they have Metal Gear Solid which is the ultimate stealth fighting game. Controller battery times last 60 hours and are rechargeable

xbox only because the network for PS3 live is so shitttttyyyy. doesn't matter if you have good internet it seems

i have decent internet, although i don't trust it for having a lot money at a poker table... i feel better about playing poker at my college, because if there is a slight disconnect i have to log in again and if i'm in a hand i'm fucked for my bet. considering i probably won't be gambling on PS3 it probably will be fine.

I have superb internet, pay way more than i should (who the fuck has the right to determine how much the 'internet' should be is beyond me) but i still experience bad lag while trying to play online.

then again i also live in the mountains so i hear that's a good reason for shitty internet

Even then, you can get a 20+ inch monitor with a 1080p resolution (basically the maximum accepted at this point) for under $150.

Still, if you're deadset on a console... "next gen" consoles drop in November I believe.
I'd get GTA 5 isn't out til September, but I'd recommend other GTA's to tide you over til then. Preferably San Andreas and 4 with the DLC's.

If you get a 360/or ps3 since you don't want to wait, make sure to buy used.

As far as stealth games go, you may like Far Cry 3, a FPS with a well orchestrated stealth system and solid story.

Dishonored is also a FPS stealth game, but unlike FC3 which is set in a present/modern setting, it's set in a steampunk alternate reality with the story revolving around a plague and who's in charge of the throne.

I've had my xbox since 2008 and it's still working just fine.. You'll never get the red ring of death after only a few months.

That's sweet that your brother allows you to play his game when you come over! I would recommend sly cooper or something. Honestly I'm not the biggest gamer, though my brother plays xbox in the other room all the time while I'm in mine doing other things. If he was home right now I'd be able to knock on his door & ask him what games he would suggest to someone getting ba ck into games.

well it seems like xbox is half the price of a ps3... any reason i should get ps3 and pay double? if i get a used xbox i should be safe from the red ring?

i only visit him in his domain once a year or 2 years, so he fucking better! i bring the dankest buds and hash so i think its a fair trade lol.

No I had a roommate that went through 6 Xboxes in 3 years and yes they do go out after only a few months. You're one of the lucky ones.

Look on wiki, certain Xbox's get the red ring because of thermal paste not cooling like it should, they have a pretty bad failure rate, if your unlucky it could pain you for awhile buying the same model.


Now I bought a ps3 for Last of Us and Ni no kuni, Last of Us was decent, good enough exclusive and I'm getting hatsune miku project diva F later because I'm an otaku and imported the controller, plus the online on ps3 is free.

*If you get a ps3 you have to set your router to the ps3's IP open the port at 80 and 3074 and your NAT should turn to moderate instead of strict and you'll get no lag, I only did it cause I started noticing lag playing black ops.*

Still though, the ps4 is coming out in like a few months, if you aren't in to games really you should just wait till then.

You'll get an awesome gaming computer. with new titles for years to come for only 440 plus the 60 dollars on a game, even if you don't have a game you have an awesome blu ray that's ready to play games for the next 8 years, you'll have to pay for online but you can still get netflix etc. with out it IMO that's well worth it, if you need a computer buy a laptop.

The ps4 will read disc faster, so there will be no mandatory installation of games or long load timesand it will be in true HD on games, not some shitty 720p with jaggies everywhere.

I'm telling you this as a avid electronics consumer and gamer the ps3 is 8 years old, if you wanted one you would have had one by now and most people don't like buying other peoples used shit. Fuck GTA V for now dude... it could eventually pop up on next gen. anyway. Go to best buy and put down 25 or pre-order a ps4 on amazon. Go watch a movie if you're bored.

If you want to play GTAV that bad since it sounds like you got a deal, hit up your friend ask him what amount of memory came with it, what it was called and go on wiki and see which ones had the heating problem.

Any recent TV is going to have HDMI anyway, it's essentially already a computer monitor.
