i cut out the growths. after doing more research i realized they were abhorts that were begining to rot....at least, alot of them were...some i think were just bruised. there are still a few that dont look quite right, but i didnt want to abuse the cakes too much. now my cakes are a bit bruised where i cleaned off the abhorts, but i understand that..am i doing ok? somebody? anybody??

i saw the cakes. now there is at least one dark blue pin on each cake, and one cake(the one that is pinning the best) has little blue grey dots on it....i cant tell if it's mold or more pins forming. what is the best method of removing the blue pins? why do they bruise??? we havent handled the cakes except in birthing

Hi again neverwhere. Having fun talking to yourself i see. If you have pins forming, then I would say that your humididty is probably ok. I get little balls on my cakes that start to rot too. Just pick them off and the cake will be fine. If these blobs get about a half inch in diameter, i pick them and keep them. For handling the cakes, you can use gloves if you are paranoid. To get the balls out of hard to reach places, I use a sharp knife. Be sure to get all of the rotting parts off so your cake doesn't get infected. Sounds like you are doing fine.

yeah this thread is all me...i get overexcited with my project sometimes im sorry lol....yes, we cut them out and there is some brusing. the humidity problem is squared away. the cakes are exploding with the white blobs, and the white blobs are getting huge, but only some of them are turning into nice dark headed slim pins, like the photos in the gallery....are the blobs hard to dry? is it best to cut them up before drying? I have some huge ones that havent really developed in a weeks time, is that sufficent time to wait? the blobs just get bigger and bigger...maybe they are just fat asses from hell LOL

I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I cut the blobs in half to dry them. They seem to have a lower percentage water than the shrooms do. They aren't that hard to dry, but I would suggest a day of fan time before you try to use dessicant on them. If the blobs don't have a little dot on them, they aren't going to turn into pins. Pick them before they start rotting.
