had to remove blob of mycel growth...bad idea?

i knew this dog that just had to remove blob of mycel growth.....almost ingulfed the top of his cake...he says it had like a blue ring in it too.....he knows there is nada wrong with blue but noticed some yellowish to light brown color on it so he just took a fork..sprayed it down with alcohol and went on with the removel procedure...you guys think that was a no no or better safe than sorry

It was probably just thick overlay .. Probably nothing to be worried about. You probably won't get any knots/primordia from that area.
