18 Year old shot and tasered to death by police

An 18 year old holding up a street car with a knife was fatally shot and tasered by a Toronto police officer. Seriously, what the fuck? This kid wasn't even near the officer and this trigger happy cop just unleashed it on him. What does he do after firing 9 shots? Gets out the taser. Man, this is so fucked up. What do you guys think about this?

I think the 18 year old shouldn't of been holding up a car with a knife.

Not saying at all he deserved it, but with all the bad publicity about cops these days it is not very smart to go out committing violent crimes and not meet a violent end at the hands of law enforcement. You gotta know you are taking a major life risk in making a decision like that.

But I would give him the benefit of the doubt since most of the fucked up cops I hear about are here in the states and not so much in Candia

What this guy said.  He was threatening the life of someone else, the officer responded accordingly.  I hate car thieves, I've had my car stolen. Good riddance, maybe he'll make better choices in his next life instead of trying to screw someone else over.

Yes I think he got what he deserved.  Do you know what consequences a stolen car can have on someone?  Not everyone has the luxury of full insurance either, lots of people only have liability coverage.  You lose your transportation and you've lost the ability to get to work on time, pick your kids up, go shopping, etc, plus you're out thousands of dollars.

He asked me what I thought about it. I personally don't care about someone threatening the lives of other people.

9 shots seem excessive when 1-2 well placed rounds should of been enough.

It was an empty street car, not somebody's personal vehicle. Yeah this person shouldn't have held it up obviously but really? 9 shots to kill somebody then tase them because they're holding up an empty street car? Where at all is that justified? He wasn't even near any cops.

Not condoning it, but this is why you comply with the police's demands when a gun is pointed at you. You don't know what mental line that cop has drawn (that if you cross he's firing).

Since he doesn't drop the knife, all bets are off is my opinion, someone can lunge at a person with a knife very easily, and there can be no defense.

Was shooting him 9 times correct?  No, that was definitely excessive force.

Yeah you can lunge at a person easily with a knife, but just watch the video. Before it would be even possible for him to do that, he would have to first advance out of the street car. If he did that, then okay shoot the guy but this kid was inside the street car alone.

From my experience, Toronto police are mostly a bunch of assholes.

I did watch the video, do the police want to take the chance of a man lunging with a knife, and hope they can shoot him in the process?

I guess the question still remains, why didn't they at least try the tazer?  Or is that too dangerous when a man if armed with a knife?

The only problem here seems to be the eight wasted bullets. Do your cops not know how to shoot?
I can't really feel bad when someone doing something pitiful like stealing a car gets shot to death.

He wasn't stealing a car... It's not even clear whether or not he even threatened anyone with the knife before the driver evacuated the street car and the police arrived.

There are a million better ways the cops could have handled this, instead it was kill first ask questions later...

Forestdie and Shroomer17 right on.

He was in an empty streetcar; no hostages to threaten... only himself and a sharp object in an empty box... you can see him at 46 seconds stepping slowly down with his left foot; it does not even pass the line to be in front of the doors; he is still inside the bus when shot; he falls onto his butt/back on the opposite wall... and is then fired upon 6 more times at a measured pace by the subject officer.
