Yep. Raw. I didn't have any portobello mushrooms, so i just threw some uncooked shiitake in there. It wasn't that bad, probably because the asian greens had a very pronounced taste.

How is bok choy raw? I was actually thinking of giving it a try earlier today.

I like it in shabu shabu and sukiyaki. It's kind of like kale, when consumed raw it can have a bitter aftertaste that is off-putting to some people if you are not used to it. I bet a lot of vegetarians here would like bok choy in sukiyaki with tofu, eggs, udon noodles, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and vegetable broth.

This sounds really fucking delicious. Link and or recipe?

I've been vegetarian for over 12 years now with a couple, year-long forays into veganism.  I wish I could remain vegan, but it's hard.  My reasons are:  animal ethics (factory farms are unbelievably cruel and inhumane), health, environmental, and humanitarian.

I am totally okay with eating wild-caught fish and game, but that's the only exception I make.  If people could stop eating meat we could use all that food we grow to feed the animals to just feed people, and that would put an end to world hunger.  Plus we'd reduce the epidemics of heart disease, cancer, and obesity.

Fact.

:congrats:

Besides the torture these creatures have to go through so we can have these products we so much "need". Is not even natural, our demand for food is so high that not even nature can keep up with it. Cycle of life is too slow for us so I don't even know what they are eating at this point. Last time I checked there were cloning chickens with no feathers, eyes, nor beak for that matter. I have to be honest I have not been vegan my whole life, in fact very far from it. When people ask me why and all that shit they love to question, I respond: Once you know, you gotta be too shitty inside to look the other way and pretend that didn't happen.

Bashing on vegetarians is not my job, but I often ask my self what's the line between mild torture and severe torture. Unless raping cows, and keeping them pregnant so you can have cheese with your fries is totally cool in your book.

I don't have the money to be fully vegan... at all. Once I'm living on my own and am financially stable I'll probably make the switch.

I've never tried this particular recipe, but here's one: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/masaharu-morimoto/saga-wagyu-sukiyaki-recipe/index.html

You can buy your own sukiyaki sauce if you want, or make your own like in the recipe. If you are a vegetarian, then simply omit the beef slices from the recipe. All the recipes use dashi, and dashi is basically soup base, so if you are a vegetarian just use vegetable broth. Or if you're a pescatarian that will eat fish, it would be better to use fish broth.

Cook this in a fondue pot or an electric slow cooker, so you can eat it by the table as you cook it. Sukiyaki is served like fondue or shabu shabu or Korean BBQ, you eat it little by little as you cook small serving-sized portions of it, instead of cooking everything all at once and putting it all on a plate.

I like to make the sukiyaki sauce beforehand, add most of it to the pot you're cooking, and save some to put in a small bowl for dipping. Then, crack a raw egg into the sukiyaki sauce you have set aside, mix it all together, and dip the veggies (and meat if you eat it) into this sauce as you eat.

Question to all the knowledgeable veggie eaters out there. Does anybody know if I can eat the leaves that are attached to the red radishes? I just bought a bunch of radishes, they were on sale at the market, only a buck for 5 bunches of radishes. But I just realized I am throwing away quite a bit of the green leafy portion. Can I eat these leaves? I tried to eat some of it raw and it's pretty bitter. Is there a particular way to prepare this stuff?

I'm a 90% vegan, 10% ovo-vegetarian. Why? I'm a nutritionist and I "teach" people to find what works for them --in a nutshell. This works for me. Intermittent fasting also works for me but I don't preach it or condone it for others who have not done their own "investigation" and found out what works/doesn't work for them.

Also from the health standpoint, I am not opposed to, by any stretch, for clients or anyone, to consume grass-RAISED (not finished), certified humane, free-roaming, meat, or eggs or, RAW milk, but those things are often hard for people to find. Fortunately, since I live in NYC, it is not TOO hard and prices are about the same, to be honest. Same with organic produce. There are CSAs, Farmers Markets, and Trader Joes (not Whole Farce, which we all boycott) making it a lot more accessible and also, more affordable.

In the past 4 years that I've done this, I've had turkey burgers I've made for my parents, once and I had a tiny taster's piece of steak I was making for my dad's 50th birthday.

In 7 days I will have been a vegetarian for a year, I did it mainly because of factory farming and the environment, the meat industry is jacked up and it shouldn't be that way so I decided I did not want to support that, You should watch the video on meat.org if you don't know about factory farming, It kind of opens your eyes up to the fact that you have no idea where the meat you're eating comes from, if you eat meat, and if you don't it just gives you another reason to not. I would be completely open to eating hunting game, and home grown meat, I'm just not comfortable with not knowing where its coming from and how harsh it is on the environment.

Yeah well I just feel that looking at your plate of chicken breast, you really have no clue as the pain the chicken went through to be killed. Same with cows. Icredibly blunt and unhygienic environments

I don't necessarily agree with your statement "Thekidinside"
I think there is plenty of food available to us that involve no harm, no blood, no deceases, no pain.

You missed the point. If you're worried about factory farming then find a grass raised farm. Not grass fed because that means gmo alfalfa FINISHED meat...or don't eat meat, as it is your choice.

As far as vegetables, unless you're eating local and in season your tomatoes come from thousands of miles away, are gassed with methane and irradiated to look red--which is why they look and taste like poop; no delicious tomato-y taste.

In my practice we call it the "good, better, best" approach, and I'm not the only one to use it. Hope it clears it up.

mexican lettuce wrap, i like! Good idea.

I think pinto beans, cheese, and coleslaw with guac, salsa and hot sauce would be pretty decent for taco's. Will probably try it out tomorrow.
