I posted something about this already and described it and said here's the pics but I screwed something up and pics didn't show up so I edited it and now there on there it's under the title ganoderma applanatum there are more pics of other artist conks on that post but thought this one was the coolest. I just had to repost this pic. I think Its prob. one of the strangest looking mushrooms I've seen.

Not 100% but almost as where I found them there were many that had the same looking top and bottom just no where near this size and took one of the smaller ones to my local conservation office and they confirmed ganoderma applanatum.

No, I didn't collect a sample from it but I could as I know exactly where it's at (unless someone took it). I had a bunch of artist conks I had gathered that day and thought this one was prob. very old and to cool looking to take, I guess I could have taken a sample from it but figured there was so many around why fuck with trying to grow it, but I guess it would be cool to clone this.

You're probably right, but damn what a fine specimen.  Even a piece of that could be valuable (not monetarily, but mycologically).

Yeah I agree with u. Next time I get some time on my hands I will see if it's still there And take a culture sample from it.
