Ginger as mulch

So, I just hacked down a huge amount of ginger (shell ginger, not the edible kind) in my backyard in order to do some work on a fence that is behind it.  I wanted to know if anyone knows if the dead ginger makes good mulch.  I googled "ginger allelochemical" and "ginger as mulch" and could not find if anybody has done this or any good info.  I am somewhat afraid that the decaying plant matter might contain chemicals that kill other plants.  Then again, if not it should make exceptionally good mulch for bananas because they are both in the same order (Zingiberales).  Has anybody done this before?  The fact that ginger grows so fast should make this a good permaculture technique.

Curiously enough, I just happen to have grown bananas on mulch, part of which included a small patch of ginger that I tore out.  It didn't hurt anything.
