Best way to ship cacti.

I made some trades and have to ship some cacti, and I'd like to ensure they arrive to their new owners alive and well. When I ordered my Pedro, it was sent to me in a normal box, with the roots covered in dirt, and wrapped in wet news paper. Would that be the best way to ship the cacti?

Rooted in pots. Though I'd like to ship just the cacti seeing how the whole pot weights around 6 pounds.

Pull it out of the pot, remove excess dirt but leave whatever is covering the roots so that you can make a good rootball, cover with a damp newspaper and ball it up good, then you could try to wrap the ball a little with some saran wrap to keep it balled-up. Place in a box and pad the voids with extra news papers or whatever packing material.

My torch came in a freezer bag. THere was a little dirt covering the roots but not restricted and it did o.k.

i'm a nazi about perfection in packing.. root balling is the most professional way to do things.

to ship it on it's bare roots should be fine!
the biggest issue are the spines (when present) in my opinion.
perhaps some foam or lots of newspaper, taking care not to allow it all to be loose...
i am against putting anything wet inside as it might become fuel for a nice rotting if the cuttings have some fighting in the box...
