If it is sealed and you get it sterilized, then yes, it should work.

If you get microwave proof plastic tubs, they usually hold up ok in a pressure cooker

I've been using gladware/ziplock containers with microwave sterilization for years, it works great. Sorry, but Cowsnose is incorrect.

BTW this is a new forum account for me, I used to post as HateCamel, but I see someone else has claimed that name now.

I've heard of some success with gladware containers, but, through a bunch of crappy experience the guy I heard it from says its best to double wrap those containers with saran wrap before you microwave them and tape the hole after innoculation. This was the only microwave tek that worked for him. He was using gladware and whole grain brown rice.

I works. A friend used Glad 3 1/2 cup (25 oz or 739ml) square disposable containers filled with PF style substrate and microwaved with good result. These actually worked better than her batches that were boiled in half pint canning jars. (on top of the substrate, she also used a vermiculite 'ramsey seal' covered with tyvek and then covered with the lids which had holes in them).

what kind of times are your respective friends using on their microwaves when doing this? i tried microwave once and the cake cake out hard and dry...i tried using a little extra water, and it came out soupy! where is there a -decent- microwave tek available? (if such a thing exists...)

As microwaves vary in power, you really have to do some experimentation. It has been a long time since my friend used this technique but I think she added an extra 1/8 cup (?) of water (to triple of the standard PF formula), put rubber bands around the container, flipped it upside down and nuked it for 4 minutes, turned it over and then nuked it another four. The vermiculite has a tendency to expand during microwaving, so she was careful to allow some space in the containers for this. Until you get the water ratios and times right, you shouldn't walk away from the cooking as you may get a smokey, stinky mess in your oven.

Due to my inability to find canning jars, I use microwave proof plastic tubs in my pressure cooker... It's really cool to get 750ml and 1500ml square shaped cakes

  walmart does have them now...I picked up a couple of cases yesterday.  From what I'm told from the very smart walmart employees, is that canning jars are a "seasonal" item.  So I guess this is "canning season" heheh so get 'em while they are stocking them.  They said they quit ordering them after fall and don't reorder again until late spring.
