lactuca virosa?
    #18160932 -

Is these mature lactuca virosa?

no flowers observed. All of them are 2 - 5 ft tall. I found a little area with a ton of them... I see plants that look very similar to lactuca virosa all the time but I've never bothered to identify it or consume. I'm hoping to change that soon

It is definitely something in the Lactuca genus. I don't know enough to differentiate very well between specific species. But score it and collect the sap either way before it dries out.

I personally would try smoking/eating it even without the species confirmation since virosa isn't the only active lettuce species and so far as I know there aren't any poisonous lettuces. It's up to you to be cautious or not though, I'm not going to assume any responsibility should you decide to consume it.

Cool thank you. I've scored the stems by making a long vertical cut on both sides and left them sitting vertically against a wall. I'm definitely going to need to do more research on them. Wiki says 1 person has died attempting to use it for intoxication. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactucarium To bad they didn't elaborate.

Yeah i would bet its virosa and not the serriola or whatever the other ones called. From my experience they are useless but i havent experiment alot with these plants. I blended, strained, and boiled down to goup which was consumed
