the guy also told me that the people who lived there had created their own little form of government to make sure everything ran smoothly within the commune.  he said the people would also all gather together frequently to keep their relationships strong.

again, it seemed like a really neat place.  i really want to go stay at one for a longer period of time instead of just visiting for a few hours during the day.

seriously though, chinacat's experience seems to me to be more representative of how communes are in general.  I've been to a few commune house party type things in madison (they're really more like politically correct frats...) and it was pretty bummer.  the legend of the cool commune is like a pot of gold... I met this cool hippie guy who lives in a small (but really nice and maintained) house on a bit 'o land right outside of town with like 5 of his hippie friends, but they all have to work jobs and shit, so it seems to kind of defeat the purpose.

if anyone knows where there is a cool real commune though, shout it out, cause I know all about farming and working hard and shit... and I'm clean.... and I too have a utopia complex...
