Redline. Definitely eye candy. Incredible visual style

Beyond the Black Rainbow.

"I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Yeah I was pretty out there both times I watched it. I imagine I'd enjoy it sober as well but I really can't say  I hope you didn't watch it on a computer screen, it definetly needs to be on a big screen with quality soundsystem and the volume turned up!

But still, a lot of people have watched it sober and enjoyed it immensely. Give it a try on some psychedelics after the peak has worn off, I'm sure you'll love it!

Cj-B, thank you for recommending Beyond the Black Rainbow, looks right up my alley but somehow I hadn't heard of it!

I'll list one that hasnt been mentioned yet: Dredd (2012).

Befire you judge (haha), check out the scenes where the people use the drug slo-mo. It is absolutely incredible cgi. Like stopping time mixed with rainbows, stardust, and DMT. Rest of the movie wasn't too great but if you're just considering eye candy it is worth taking a look.

honestly, baraka and all of those types of movies - there are several - are best if you turn the volume down and put on some music. good eye candy if you're tripping or have company and just want to show off your tv, but nothing you'd want to sit through under other circumstances.

i'll second the matrix. that movie just blew my mind when it came out. the sequels not so much, but that first one is untouchable. the animatrix is an often overlooked classic imo.

another animated one from the same prestigious group of directors behind the animatrix is batman: gotham knight.

warner brothers' dc animated films team did an excellent job with frank miller's classic the dark knight returns. it's in two parts and is worth acquiring in hd. classic story that set the deconstruction trend for comics in the 80's and 90's. good for any time.

part 1

part 2

this is always good for volume down, music playing trippy eye candy. neo tokyo

this is definitely worth a watch if you're into anime. if you haven't noticed, i like animated stuff. but i'm super picky. this makes the cut.

redline is the most recent anime i've seen that's genuinely impressed me. so much fun. good for eye candy or watching.

visions of frank, however, takes the cake when it comes to animated eye candy. good luck on finding it though. last copy i saw on amazon was $100. i got my copy for christmas several years back from jim woodring's site. i showed it to a friend and he had to jump through some hoops to get his copy; jim woodring himself doesn't even have a copy! my friend wrote him to ask where he could find one.

i'd like some recommendations for really good hd documentaries about deep sea, bio-luminescent creatures. i don't wanna see seals getting eaten and shit like that; just cool looking fish to trip out on.

Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii

The high point of Floyds career for me. The band is on fire and the imagery and the camerawork stunning! Don't watch directors cut version as it contains some outdated CGI, the original is a visual feast!

I totally agree on that one. It never gets old and the fact it is tied to some of my favourite music is just gravy.

I really enjoy "American Beauty" as far as really great cinematography goes on the fantasy scenes that play in the protagonist, Lesters' head (Kevin Spacey). It has a great storyline and underlying theme too.

For more artsy I'd go for "Mullholand Drive" by David Lynch though that is on the darker side.

Along similar lines is the debut released film by The Mars Volta guitarist/band leader Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. It's called "The Sentimental Engine Slayer" and is quite trippy and non-linear. Also quite dark though.

last of the trilogy sucked, I think.

animatrix was really good.

What Dreams May Come is pretty good. I liked Akira too. Gladiator was cinematic and beautiful in its own way. LOTR is good.
