my health...again
    #17936977 -

so after my colonoscopy/endoscopy, it looked great and my gastroenterologist just put me on prilosec and no stress. this seems ridiculous since it's just an acid reducer, but i've been feeling great since and even ate a sourdough loaf. i've been through more than 10 years of complete gluten free eating hell (with stress and no real success, just survival) and if this is the answer, i'm going to go crazy. this shit ruined my marriage at least by 60% and pretty much ruined my social life completely. this isn't shit you can get back.

Were you officially diagnosed with celiac sprue?

I literally just had an upper endoscopy to test for celiac. They have to take biopsies, you can't see it.

Gluten gives me acid reflux along with many weird symptoms like headache, jaw pain and irritability. I'm not a doctor but I detest acid reducing medications for a few reasons: 1) the stomach is supposed to be acidic in order to kill pathogens 2) stomach acid helps the body digest food properly and absorb certain nutrients, 3) doctors prescribe things like priolosec without testing the actual acid level in most patients.

When you say you've been gluten free for 10 years how strict have you been? I'm guessing by now you know the FDA has no definition of "gluten free," therefore some GF products are not in fact 100% gluten free.

You could be exposed to gluten unknowingly, it's difficult for me sharing a kitchen with others.

Prilosec fucked with my moods. Be careful.

And as for your marriage what happened? Acid reflix destroyed your relationship?

i've been the most strict gluten free eater anywhere in the world probably, sauces, vinegar...evrything and i'm educated about it.

Well yeah as I'm sure you know, there's not much reason to avoid gluten unless you know for a fact you've been diagnosed with celiac sprue.

It would've helped if they did a biopsy, but they would have had reason to believe you had it to begin with, based on the colonoscopy itself.

So if they didn't see anything from the colonoscopy to be concerned for ciliac sprue, then there's no reason to do a biopsy.

that's bs.they went in to check specifically for anything and did no tests. lunch break must have been arriving. the next time i need the er, i'm swimming as far into the ocean as possible because after years of misery they still don' and won't do shit.  fuck them and fuck your medical studies. $5000 deductible at the beginning of the year but nothing but shit insurance and no results as they had promised(the biopsies).fuck you all i'd rather walk in front of a bus than ever go to any sort of medical clinic again. i just need a reliable heroin or dilaudid dealer now i suppose.

Check your facts. Celiac is a disease of the small intestine. You can't see villous atrophy without a microscope. A patient with celiac could have a totally normal looking large intestine, that's not the place to look at all.

Sorry you feel your doctors are not actually looking to help, I know that feel.

You may want to consider getting the HLA-DQ testing done to see if you have the genetic markers for Celiac disease...much cheaper than another endoscopy/colonoscopy. Good luck man.

Not true for the most part people with celiac sprue also present with things like microscopic colitis, much more common also to see polyps, evidence of chronic diarrhea, and inflammatory disorders visible in the proximal colon.

I can sense an obviously large amount of frustration.  But again I find it concerning that you insist you have a very serious disease (in this case, celiac sprue) without even being tested or diagnosed with it.

It sounds like you're insisting that they keep prying, and even when they don't find anything and studies come back negative, you simply reject those results.

Isn't this also what happened when you kept going to the E.R.?

they did actually do the biopsies and found lymphocytic colitis. there's no known cure for it except some people have luck with diet. i've tried diets for at least 15 years to correct this. he just put me on entocort(slow release corticosteroid) for inflammation and Prilosec for acid, but my gut is still always in pain, not nausea, and i have no stomach acid issues or belching gas anymore. i do however still have the same bowel issues and it's been hard to get my doctor to keep me on opiates, which are the only thing I've found that gives me relief and slows down my spasms that lead to stressful shits all day long. i can't even live a normal life or hold a job with this condition, but my doctor called it a benign condition and doesn't have a fucking clue how painful, stressful, debilitating this is, not to mention embarrassing. right now i'm on a raw goat milk diet($20 per gallon, nearly impossible to get) and i'm eating fruits with it. i seem to do good with chili(homemade) too which seems kind of strange, and can eat it strictly every day with little issues.

I hope the diet goes well towards improving your symptoms.

Atleast you don't have celiac sprue or ulcerative colitis or cancer like you were previously concerned for.

Celiac sprue sucks bad too, dude.

Not being able to eat anything with gluten in it pretty much excludes all major starches that aren't specially made.

I have a friend with lymphocytic colitis...it's definitely not a benign condition. He had luck with juicing and a very bland diet.

Hope this can improve for you man....microscopic colitis can be very difficult to deal with because everything looks normal on the colonoscopy and doctors are hesitant to prescribe anything worthwhile.

I wish doctors would openly prescribe opiates for colitis. Whenever i've had flare ups of my UC one 5mg vicodin a day would eliminate the spasms completely. Unfortunately the only time I get them is when I'm flaring up badly. Have you told your doctor how opiates help your condition?

I've assumed celiac since 2003 and have been the most strictly gluten intolerant individual since then. I did eat sourdough a couple weeks ago after the doc said it all looked good and oh my god it was heaven. it didn't seem to affect me either, but who knows long term. I've quit all grains because I can't digest any of them chewed whole and it's a food that didn't choose humans to propagate, except maybe rice, which I need to investigate more. corn interestingly needs human interaction to grow properly, and we were the mayans myth people of corn until 2012. with fruit we discard the seeds to new locations or poop them in new locations benefitting the species. the raw goat milk? I'm treating myself like a baby and slowly reintroducing fruits with the raw goat milk and smoothies, then i'll add chili again and hope I can work all summer without an er visits. it hurts bad but i'll find what I need. people like kurt cobain kill themselves over this condition. funny cause people think I look just like him. he took opiates for crippling stomach/intestinal issues....

anyway, since I have lymphocytic colitis and onions make my neck lymph swell immediately to the size of golf balls, maybe the garlic is affecting me in a way i'm not realizing. I can't even eat elephant garlic, leeks, shallots...I've always thought it strange that I could still eat garlic, but it's really my last source of cooked flavor and I was reluctant to try giving it up. I will now cut it out for sure and see though if I get better. i'll give it a few months at least.

I just learned that a frugivore diet is also part of the paleo diet, so I went and bought some organic grass fed ground beef. I hope I can eat it and digest it. i'll just have to fry it up in a pan and eat it straight I guess. if anybody has recipes for ground beef with no alliums or grains, please let me know.

Recipes for ground beef is popular if you haven't tried it, you can search it in Google and do it, take it easy.
