my kids live in sinkhole country(western ky) and i fear for them all the time. they have this, rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins, unheard of ticks, unheard of deer ticks, chiggers, tornadoes, and people crazy for pills. at least they get to grow up with the passiflora incarnata fruit and really cool fossils/geodes if that's the life path they follow. they have some nice limestone flint and chert over there too if they ever take up my flintknapping business. i guess i'd have plenty of choice material for them anyway. i only have 1 boy and a girl, but i've met some kick ass girl knappers that knew their shit. it really just takes confidence when striking platforms when doing percussion and reading your ridges well.

My aunt had a sinkhole open up in her pool, all the water was gone in 10 seconds. The hole was like 30 or 40 feet deep. If someone would've been in it, dead. Pretty crazy shit.

it's florida, it sits atop a bunch of limestone, any sort of water can
dissolve it, an aquifer or broken sewer line are common culprits, enough of
the limestone erodes away and then the sink hole opens. atlanta had one cause
by an aging sewer that swallowed a lot of shit, when I was 14 we had one open
up on the road I lived on for the same reason and it managed to swallow a
guy's truck while he was driving. fucked him up and because it was sewer
related he made bank. they ran all new sewer down our road and filled in
around it with concrete believing it would stop the problem if it ever
happened again
