Mushroom competition on the West Coast
    #17876006 -

Hey guys,

(I know I'm more of a lurker than a participant on this forum, but that should be changing soon, considering I'm not in school anymore/ have more free time now.)

I looked for a similar thread, but couldn't find one that answered the exact question I have. I apologize if I am being redundant, but:

I currently live in Alabama, but will be moving out to the west coast within 1-2 years. I will have $25-50k saved up for when I move. I eventually want to start my own commercial mushroom farm. However, I know that all along the west coast, there is already a very strong mycological presence (it seems that half the people I see on this forum have some tie to CA/OR/WA).

With all that being said, my primary question is: From a demand/competition point of view, what is my best bet in regards to location on the west coast? I want to live somewhere between mid-California and Oregon (Eureka and/or Corvallis in particular). It seems though that there is a strong commercial mushroom presence in that area.

What are some of the better regions on the west coast to start a mushroom farm (from a competition/demand perspective)?

PS: I know that there countless other factors that go into a business decision like this. I'm not asking about all of the other factors- I just want to know of the market regions that haven't necessarily been tapped into yet.

Thanks so much for your help/insight.

- Willy
