Hmm I was downloading some torrents last night and now my computer won't connect to the Internet, but can still use my iPod. Dunno what the fucks up.

The news that Giganews logs and is proud of it doesn't surprise me at all, BTW. That is one sleazy company. I've had problems with them in the past and this news about them is pretty much what I would expect.

If you download from Usenet, find another feed besides Giganews!

Here's the thing though: Piracy is not stealing

Theft means depriving of property. If I pinch your car, then we can't drive it at the same time, because I pinched it. If you have a story, and you tell me it, then we both know that story. I don't deprive you of that information by knowing that information myself.

Likewise with piracy. I've obtained information that I could have only done via bittorrent or some other p2p network. Without it I would never have seen trailer park boys, got my friends into it, then gone to see their dear santa claus: go fuck yourself performance in the O2 Arena (what used to be the millenium dome) in London, and how this year I will be taking even more friends to see them again in London.

Since then I've bought the series seven DVD, which I would not have done had I not have seen the show numerous times for free. And all that time I was watching it for free, did I deprive them of revenue? Nope, because networks here won't show it, I don't live in Canada, so those advertising during the show breaks wouldn't have been selling to me.

Did I deprive anyone of watching that show by watching it myself? No, and what's more, by uploading it myself to the P2P networks, others will see it, others that wouldn't have otherwise seen it.

plus, just because it's there to D/L, how is anyone else but the uploader committing a crime anyways? it's there. i downloaded it by clicking a link... oops, it wasn't an accident. why am i in shit, now? i didn't put the fucking copyrighted material there!
