Transition from pinning to fruiting oysters

I am growing pearl oysters on wheat straw. I have the turkey bag sized bales in a fruiting chamber. At what point of pin development do you drop the humidity to the fruiting parameter?

You'll probably find that it erupts into fruit when you're not looking, or at least that's always my oyster experience :smile:

I've said it before and I'll say it again, often oysters seem to fruit in spite of themselves...so try not to worry too much. When you start seeing mature-ish fruit, keep an eye on things to stop them getting waterlogged and rotting.

mate dont worry too much about the exact humidity requirements the oysters wiil grow within 20% of the recommended rH just make sure that there not too wet or dry.

As you start to see the pins forming is the best time ime.
You'll notice them as darker smoother patches to start.

Golden Oysters are a bit more picky. But pearl... yes.. they aren't nearly as so.

Thanks for the imformation. My bales feed me for a week straight. Then I dunked them and put them outside. They went off again. Although not that well. I have since found, cloned, and isolated a local strain of pearl oysters. My girlfriend found them growing on a waterbar at the rafting outpost were I work. I assume it is the Florida strain. They were fruiting vigorously and it has been in the high eighties. I guess the one of our many guests from Florida was carring a spore load. When I grew the tissue culture out, there were primordia forming on the tissue culture itself. I would be willing to trade cultures with anybody that was interested.
