why there is reality and patterned, law-like consistency at all, rather than noise or non-reality is not a question physics answers. It's a question physics presupposes an answer to in order to provide other answers.

All my friends in town here will inherit my vast estate. They will all be doing a lot better financially when I'm gone.  Veritas will get a large chunk.

I have quite the imagination too; I just prefer huge spikes in dopamine levels from highly dopaminergic drugs compared to the small increase that comes with the thought of helping out a friend.

I do both, but helping my friends out makes me feel good because they like me more (strokes my ego), and they are more likely to do favors for me in the future.

I do for that reason also. Again I can do both.  Not everyone experiences the full range of empathy. That's just one way I do.

People are animals too, and thus are inherently selfish by nature, yes.  We are all out for our own survival at the least, happiness in the interim, and meaning or purpose at the height of it.  This is not necessarily a bad thing....

I beg to differ with you here.  What you said about loving the feeling of being wanted is also true, but that doesn't mean love toward other people doesn't exist.  They are not mutually exclusive.

Time for new friends.  There are lots of humans who are interested in meaningful connections and seek them out.  I may not be your friend at current, but I do give a fuck about you, if only at this moment because you have something intelligent to say and are clearly a thinker - a strong asset.

I respect and honor your thoughts and in many respects you are correct, and admittedly, I still struggle with reconciling my feelings about humanity as a whole.  There exist the heights of tremendous loving acts and yet we can also witness the depths of darkness that humans are capable of.  Perhaps it's in what we choose to focus our thoughts and energies on.

I don't think happy people are delusional any more than anyone else is.  It's just a different experience and perspective on this strange world we wander through.  And you believe whatever you choose to believe in any given moment. 

I understand the throws of deep depression, I have been there.  There is a way to find meaning such that life becomes beautiful no matter what.  It's a matter of finding whatever that thing is for you (which comes full circle to being selfish... it's ok).  On that note, I leave you all with this wonderful article I found today in the hopes that you will read it and pass it along:

Actually, studies suggest that depressed people have a more realistic perspective on the world than happy people.

Isn't there a way you can be realistic (having been in the throws of depression in the past), and yet still find a meaning that serves you and choose to see the world as beautiful in this regard?
