Just wanted to make sure the blacklight actually worked. I got it for a buck so I thought it might not actually light things up.

You can get a real decent CFL black light for $5. The also sell UV diodes at Radio Shack that work very well, they seem to be  shifted further into the UV spectrum.

A cool way to figure out if the backlight has a lot of UV in it is to look at it in the dark. Near UV causes your vitreous humor to glow, and the inside of your eyeball will emit a faint glow that appears as a blue haze.

Shining UV light in your eyes just seems like a bad idea.

I know you're not getting enough from a standard floro blacklight to hurt anything but still...


OP-  what kind of blacklight did yo get for a buck?

Yes, Syrian Rue.


It's a 24 inch linear bulb. No branding or anything on it.

tonic water fluoresces under black light, thats always fun. i think you can paint with it on a white peice of paper and it'll show up under the black light.
