Would it be electrically safe to use a 4' blacklight bulb in a standard 4' fluorescent fixture?

Is it safe to put a GE 40w 48" blacklight tube in a standard 4' flo fixture?

Or the 2' bulbs in the 2' fixtures.

The damn 4' blacklight fixtures cost like $30-40 and normal flo fixtures can be had for less than $10, and the bulbs are $11 at wally world, and I'm cheap and broke.

i know they make a compact flouro blacklight that can be used in normal fixtures

i believe the normal flouros are 20w and a standard blacklight is 40w

Quote:

Fluorescent blacklights are available in a wide variety of lengths and diameters so you will be able to find the one you need for virtually any fluorescent lighting fixture. Fluorescent models are usually available in BL and BLB, and in rapid start and preheat. BL bulbs are white when not turned on. When lit up, they emit a bright blue UV glow. The BLB models are purple when not lit, and emit the familiar deep purple glow when lit. Either way, you will be able to wow your guests with the cool effects of your new glowing light! There is also a 20 watt compact fluorescent blacklight bulb as well, item QQ05439, which you can use in normal light sockets. Obviously, this is not something only used for fun parties and wacky stunts. Night clubs, carnivals, theme parks, theaters, nail salons, and many more places use ultraviolet lighting as well.

I've put a black light in a regular lamp before and it was fine. I don't know if this helps but there you go.

Lol, I'm feeling a tad retarded, I was thinking normal 4' flo's were 60w each, after consulting my fixture upstairs, its shown me otherwise.

I was thinking it might overdrive the bulb and possibly cause problems, trying to run it at 60w, or the starter in the ballast might be different.

Don't mind me... I'm just a little off.

As long as the wattage matches up with the fixture, all should go well.
