I would leave Earth to be a part of pretty much any space related stuff. I would love to be on a shuttle traveling through deep space. Being an astronaut has always been my dream job.

It's too red. You wouldn't be able to do things for scenery like take a hike on Earth. It would just be taking a hike through... red.

There are a lot of good science fiction books about colonizing Mars. It is definitely a great target for our first terrrafowming projects.

A couple of books I have liked about colonization of Mars:

Mars - Ben Bova (and other books by this author)
Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars (trilogy) - Kim Stanley Robinson
Moving Mars - Greg Bear (I loved this book)

There is a lot of other great fiction and non-fiction on the topic. I have a woman who I would not leave behind but if she was not in the picture I would jump at the chance to colonize Mars, or even to die there trying.

Smaller.. about half the size... Atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide.. barren wasteland from the past war... temps around -100C - 20c. Good times.
