Mimosa scabrella help please
    #1744530 - 07/24/03 12:12 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

OK,

By some pure stroke of luck I have a number of Mimosa Scabrella seedlings. There are no real leaves yet, just the pair of seed leaves. One or two seedlings have died and the leaves on another are turning yellow.

I have them outside in the UK. The temp. is in the mid-twenties during the day and drops to about 15 in the night. Should I bring them indoors, and at what stage in their maturity should I transplant them to individual pots.

Sorry if I've asked noob questions, but I am a noob at this green finger stuff.

Perhaps its the type of soil your growing them in? Soil conditions, over or under watering, sun exposure, pests/disease,(maybe?)lack of nitrogen fixing bacteria, and temperature and humidity could all be a factor(s) causing the problems........

Could you try and supply some more info? Please

My recent seedlings are doing great in an unheated shed with a large window.

- Seeds were nicked and soaked for 24 hours.
- Sown in non peat compost.
- Pea inoculate was used.
- Placed in a sunny location.
- Waterd daily.
- Temps night 10 to 18 C day 18 to 31 C.

As temps have been quite high in the UK (up till now) this summer I would guess they would be fine outside. Once they are esablished they should be UK hardy.

Put them in individual pots after a few months growth. Bring them in if it gets very cold, wet and windy.

I am going to try some indoors and some out.

Can you explain this bit:

- Pea inoculate was used.

Thanks

I grow pea's in the same pots to introduce nitrogen fixing bactria to the soil, not sure if this is needed though, I use this method for my yopo plants.
