Good Apps for Galaxy s3?
    #17455129 -

All I use my phone for is texting, calling, and primarily as a music player.

So can anyone recommend some good free apps that are relevant to any of the above?

Did you just get the phone for Christmas?  If so make sure you update it to Jelly Bean since IIRC they ship with Ice Cream Sandwich from the factory.  They just released the update within the past month or so. So worth it for Google Now and all the cool Siri-like voice commands.  They just added a bunch of commands in the last week or two.

NOVA LAUNCHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Trust me this is badass.  I'd highly recommend spending a couple bucks and getting Nova Launcher Prime but even the non-prime is excellent.

I like Winamp for music playback.  Super easy interface.

I highly recommend Swype keyboard, but you gotta download it from their website because it's not in the Play Store.  If you don't dig the gesture-based keyboard (but you gotta give it a chance and get used to it, let it learn your movements and vocabulary because it actually gets far more accurate the more you use it) then try SwiftKey.  In either case, the stock keyboard sucks and if you're texting a lot, then you'll probably want to try out a new keyboard.  Swype's the best though, just sayin'.

Jorte Calendar
Pulse News
BeWeather
Astrid Tasks
Equalizer
Where's My Droid <<< Lifesaver!!!
My Tracks if you are into running, hiking, biking, etc.
Google Voice
MobiCalc
SwitchPro Widget
Google Drive or Dropbox
Kingsoft Office
LunaSolCal if you care about sun/moon cycles.  Their widget is top notch.

Probably some others I'm missing.  If you root your phone there's sooooooooooooooooo much more you can do with it.

Thanks dude I'll dl a few!

Is rooting sketchy? I've heard it voids the warrenty too, I'm kinda hard on my shit might not be a wise call. I'll give winnamp a whirl. One thing I miss about the iphone is that my play count for my music was transferred back to itunes, which doesn't happen anymore. Is there anyway around that? I sync with Easy Phone Sync

it's kind of ridiculous to pay a monthly data fee and not use it.. but anyways, handcent for texting, poweramp for music player is worth checking out...

Not sure, I don't like running down my battery with music on my phone so I just use an iPod Nano so I'm not very helpful on that.

Rooting does void the warranty, but there are variables.  I believe it's T-Mobile, maybe Verizon?, that will do warranty work if the problem isn't related to the phone being rooted.  Other providers like AT&T will void it regardless.  However, that said, it's very very easy to un-root your phone and reset the flash counter that tells service techs the phone's been rooted before.  You just use an app called Triangle Away, and it'll make your phone appear as if it were never rooted at all.
All that hangs on the idea that whatever warranty issue you may encounter wouldn't stop you from using Triangle Away.

But yeah rooting is legit, like you can de-bloat your phone and uninstall all the crap Samsung and the providers load the phone with from the factory, and thus nearly doubling your battery life.  You can also load up custom ROMs to get the latest and greatest for your phone, and all sorts of things.  I'm already running Android 4.2.1.

I notice you're in Canada.  You may need to research and make sure that the files the YT vid links to will work with Canadian models.  It works with Rogers, but not other Canadian providers!  This is important!!
But this is the general process, it'll be the same on any GSIII regardless of location, however the files you need might be different if you're not with Rogers, AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint.

I've been running task650's AOKP ROM with the ktoonsez kernel for the past 5-6 months and I could never go back to the stock Samsung TouchWiz crap.  My battery will last me 2 days before I need to recharge and that's with normal use.  Plus I'm running Jellybean 4.2.1 which you can only get on the Google Nexus devices right now.  It's a really good upgrade from 4.1.2

No I actually mean RAM Manager Pro
I do also have ROM toolbox though
And yeah have to be rooted to use half of those.
Really I see no point even getting a smartphone if you aren't going root it and unlock it.

Good guy google, their phones come rooted and unlocked, warranty in-tact.

I get most of my apks from http://www.apkmania.co/

Instagram is like facebook, but with pictures instead of words. & the s3 has a good camera, you could take some sweet instapics.
Accuweather is the best weather app and weather widget imo
scanner radio is awesome, pick your city and it turns your phone into a police scanner
pandora, of course
dolphin browser is the best internet browser imo
